039. Classic

"I tell you…" Billy stretches his legs out on the chaise he's on beside the pool in Don's apartment complex. "If I'd known California was this warm in the winter, I'd have moved sooner."

"Why do you think I didn't last long in the U.K.?" Charlie shoots back from where he's dangling his legs in the pool. "It was freezing over there!"

"Poor little California boy," Don teases. "Our Nebraska stories would so beat your English winter woes."

"Ugh." Billy shudders. "No more Nebraska! I'm good with sunny So Cal." He peers up at the sky, shading his fair eyes. "It just doesn't feel right sometimes though. A Valentines Day heat wave? It's just weird."

"We should figure out what to do for Valentines," Charlie muses, "I know we're not exactly traditional…"

"Ha!" Don huffs out, amused. "I'm pretty sure greeting card companies don't have cards that say 'Happy Valentines Day to my Lovers!'"

Billy's hearty laugh resonates in the otherwise empty pool area.

"Imagine me showing up at Cal Sci with a dozen red roses! Or the FBI!"

"So how about we each come up with our own non-traditional take on Valentines Day?" Charlie suggests. "A riff on the classics: one of us takes chocolate, one takes flowers and the third does the gift of a getaway somewhere special. We each get a weekend day, or a full weekend, between now and V day." He smirks. "I've already got an idea for chocolate."

"I'll take the getaway," Don pipes up.

"Great, leave me with flowers," Billy scoffs.

"Get creative with it," Don tells him, smacking his arm playfully. "Use that brain of yours and prove that Charlie's not the only one with something between the ears."

"A challenge…" Billy rubs his hands together in anticipation. "All right. You're on…"

094. Chocolate

The envelope from Charlie, conspicuous by its expensive heavyweight linen paper, contains only a key card, an address and a time telling him when to show up the next day. Don knows Charlie's got money so he's unsurprised when he looks up the address online and it's a five star resort hotel up in Santa Barbara.

He leaves early Saturday morning so he can enjoy the ride up the coast on his motorcycle. That alone is a nice present: the weather is beautiful, the traffic isn't bad and the feel of his bike thrumming between his legs fills him with anticipation for what's to come.

It turns out number twelve is a cabana on the lush grounds of a cliff overlooking the sea. Don lets himself in, drops off his helmet and pack in the spacious suite's living room and follows the sounds into the bedroom.

They're waiting for him, both of them.

Charlie's got the bed stripped down to just a fitted sheet where Billy is splayed out naked, his body completely covered in Charlie's beloved numbers: swirling over his biceps, running in long lines down his lean legs and arcing over the roundness of his ass.

Charlie points to two empty jars of chocolate body paint then gestures with a flourish, offering Billy to his brother.

"Voila! Chocolate covered Billy!"

Don licks his lips as Billy artfully arrays himself for Don's viewing pleasure; chocolate and freckles indeed are a tantalizing treat.

He drags his eyes away reluctantly to ask Charlie one important question. "So if this is for me, what does Billy get?"

Charlie pulls out two more unopened jars.

"He gets you," he answers, smug, licking the extra paint off his fingers. "After all, tomorrow is another day and I'm never going to run out of math."

095. Flowers

Billy programs Charlie's portable GPS and tells them not to look in advance, just leave by eleven in the morning and plan to arrive around noon.

Charlie rides on the back of Don's bike, thrilling at the speed and the excuse to hold Don tight in public. The affection they can show outside of the apartment is so limited, it's a treat to be this close out in the sunshine.

The GPS leads them to the middle of nowhere, which seems wrong, until they spy Billy's SUV parked blocking an overgrown and mostly hidden access road. Don maneuvers the bike carefully around it and proceeds the remaining quarter mile to the final destination.

It's an empty field.

It's a nice empty field, in fact it could be considered an almost ideal meadow, with tall waving grass spotted with colorful wildflowers, circled by ancient trees.

"Over here!"

Billy stands up in the middle of the field and waves them over.

He's got a huge blanket laid out with a full picnic basket lunch, not just any lunch though, a menu of their favorite food items to feed to each other and eat off each other's bodies.

Sex al fresco, better yet, food porn al fresco.

Don applauds as Billy bows, his mock smarm always uniquely charming, and Charlie just stares as the real gift hits him: sex with Don out in the open. No one can see them here and there's Billy to be lookout so they don't have to worry.

"Don't you like it?" Billy asks, looking more confused than worried.

Charlie finally allows himself to burst into the delighted grin his stunned expression has been holding back.

"I love it."

He lets Don pull him down to the blanket, to lay him down beside him together under the sun.

086. Gift

At breakfast Don makes a joke about the Matrix and gives them both a pill to swallow.

Billy's wary, but he trusts Don with his life so he follows Charlie's lead and swallows it down with the last of his coffee.

Their only prep from Don is to wear swim trunks and bring a towel and sunscreen. He piles them into the SUV and drives west until they hit the ocean.

The marina in Marina del Rey is vast, but Don clearly knows where he's going, carrying a cooler and their gear out to a gorgeous sailboat, called Il Dono of all things, near the end of the dock. While Charlie's going off on some sort of fluid dynamics geek out about the boat's lines, Billy breathes in the sea air and the feeling of freedom that comes from being outdoors.

As it turns out Don's a fairly experienced sailor and Charlie's trained as well, so once Billy is well coated in high SPF waterproof sunscreen he's free to lounge on the front deck as Don takes the boat out to where the sun is bright, the ocean is calm and no one else is around for miles.

Don drops anchor and hands over the helm to Charlie then dives into the sea to cool off. He comes up sparkling wet and laughing, shaking out his hair like a dog, playfully raining down drops all over both of them.

Billy's just on this side of too hot when Don joins him, but lapping up the salty wet skin of his neck as their legs entwine makes everything goldilocks just right.

It's a lazy day on the water, no need to hurry. Some sex, some swimming, something to eat and it all sounds like a wonderful way to spend Valentines Day.

I'm not quite sure how I ended up with an M/M/M threesome for a Valentine's fic series /eyes Mel and T/ but here you are. I'm big on non-traditional relationships so this seemed like a nice way to point out that polyamorous lovers can of course be thoughtful and romantic just like couples, they're just doing it for more than one person. /smiles/

Credit to t_vo0810 for the original bunny. She shared an idea with me and it sounded good so I ran with it. I don't normally need other people for bunnies, but I'm human. I get tired. /glances at clock/ (Like now. I haven't slept a wink since Monday morning; I never went to sleep last night and I'm still up and about somehow. /marvels/)

Il Dono is Italian for The Gift and there's the added bonus of it being Don's gift. /snicker/ I don't even have to make stuff up! The universe just hands me stuff like this on a platter. Santa Barbara exists just up the coast from LA. It's where Psych, staring James Roday, is supposedly set and James Roday was on the short list to play Charlie in Numb3rs before they hired DK. Trivia fun! The Matrix was a real movie, chocolate body paint does exist, yada yada yada. Oh, and the pills Don gives them are Dramamine for sea sickness prevention.

Very special thanks to betas melissima and t_vo0810 for their assistance with this fic.

I am going to dream so well after having read this.

so once Billy is well coated in high SPF waterproof sunscreen BWEE.
Emma DeMaraisemmademarais on February 17th, 2010 10:44 pm (UTC)
Yay! I hoped you'd like it. ♥

And yeah, the sunscreen was a necessary snicker in all of this love and sex. /grins/

You really do have a thing for that motorcycle, don't you? :D

I love the little details in this. Don giving them both anti-nausea meds before taking them out on a boat. Or Billy knowing how much it would mean for his lovers to be out in the open. It shows a lot of depth to their relationship in a very understated way. Very nice.

Also had a bit of a chuckle at the sunscreen. I can totally relate.
Emma DeMaraisemmademarais on February 17th, 2010 10:46 pm (UTC)
Yes! I may scare my mother some year and actually buy one. /big grin/

I'm glad someone appreciate the details. They can be hard to fit into a drabble, but they really enhance a story.

And yeah, the sunscreen *had* to come up, amusing and mandatory as it was. /grins/

Happy Threesome Day! :D

You know how I feel about these three boys together so getting them all happy and tender and sexy does happy things to my girl parts. Well done.
Emma DeMaraisemmademarais on February 17th, 2010 10:47 pm (UTC)
Hee! Happy Threesome Day indeed! ♥

I thought you'd like this one and it was fun to take your Triangulation men out for a rare spin myself. :-)

I love enabling your M/M/M fic /giggles/. Once again, if being your bunny wrangler/freader/beta paid money, I would die a happy horny still-employed old lady of 102 (cause death wouldn't dare take me from my happy life til my body well and truly gave out, daydreaming about B/D/Ch of course). As it is, I am already so well-paid in yums, squees, and guhs that I shouldn't want for more....but of course, i totes do. making this job pretty much goldilocks just right. <3<3<3<3<3 I heart this whole drabbly delicious piece. But then you already know that. :D
Emma DeMaraisemmademarais on February 17th, 2010 10:49 pm (UTC)
Hon, I'd *so* pay you if I could because you're the best. /♥s you/

You are indeed goldilocks just right for Mel and I.

P.S. Icon love!

You are so clever. This is delicious and hot and sweet, and you do things with words that make my mouth drop open as I read. Amazing.

Some sex, some swimming, something to eat and it all sounds like a wonderful way to spend Valentines Day

Why yes, it really does. :D /happy sigh./ Brava!
Emma DeMaraisemmademarais on February 17th, 2010 11:10 pm (UTC)

Thanks for inspiring me alongside T to write this. I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed the three of them and their interplay.

/has a weird idea about inserting Billy in the Jet Black universe/

Emma DeMaraisemmademarais on August 17th, 2011 06:50 am (UTC)
Ha! Oh, you two will definitely be bad influences on me when it comes to the future of that universe. (I have Merlot Red all but done and I've reserved the next installment for someone very special, so it would have to be past that.)

I like Red Rover though! Hee!

These make a great trio and I loved all of them. I like that Billy managed to find something special to do with flowers. The love between the three of them really came through here which was great.
Emma DeMaraisemmademarais on February 18th, 2010 01:15 am (UTC)
Thanks! I thought flowers was going to be a hard prompt with an M/M/M trio, but I always have viewed Billy as being outdoorsy so that helped.

I totally just wrote a "non-traditional Valentine's" fic. And then I skim through recent N100 posts and find this.

I think I like yours better. Mine is just fluff, after all.

And this: Sex al fresco, better yet, food porn al fresco is why I love Billy. :)
