Numb3rs Fic: Afterlife
Written for numb3rs100 Second Life Summer 2010

Title: Afterlife
Pairing/Characters: Don, Charlie, Alan, David, Colby, Megan, Liz
Rating: PG13
Word Count: 300
Spoilers: Seasons 1-6
Summary: Years after their lives have all changed so much
Notes/Warnings: Read the disclaimer on my LJ

Assistant Director Sinclair shocked the Bureau by abandoning his fast track career path, but when the White House tapped him for a position on an Ethics panel on overseas intelligence, he knew it was his turn to answer the call.

+

Dr. Reeves used to think it was strange that she was the one in front of the classroom after she got her PhD, but now teaching is second nature to her and she can't wait to see Larry at the summer conference in Geneva.

+

A million dollars might seem like a lot, but Dr. Eppes really didn't consider the fame and fortune aspect of solving a Millennium problem - he just found that his work in Cognitive Emergence sent him down a train of thought that diverged into solving P vs. NP.

+

He still thinks of himself as a junior agent sometimes, but Supervisory Special Agent Granger has been in charge of the Major Crimes Task Force in LA for three years now, half the time Don led it before he got promoted.

+

The commendations are nice, but what Agent Warner wants most, now that she's off 24 months of deep cover assignment, is to relish the indictments flowing in based on her intel and some serious spa pampering supplemented by copious amounts of chocolate.

+

Having kids inspired the career shift, but former Agent Eppes loves his work as a kidnap recovery specialist since his team's sole focus is getting kids home quickly and safely to their parents plus making it home in time for dinner to see his own.

+

Snowy-haired Alan Eppes, finally happily retired, imagined what it would be like once he joined his wife in the afterlife - the two of them gazing down at their boys and marveling at how many lives they touched through their sons.

Confession
My first entry in N100's Second Life Summer!

(Only one day before it officially ends.)

/is made of fail/

I really wanted to write more, but I had a hellish June (loads of medical problems), a hellish summer math class (5 units of advance math in 6 weeks? Insanity!) and then an early start to the fall semester (didn't school used to start up AFTER Labor Day?) so I haven't had much time for extracurricular fic past my de rigueur N100 and WC100 drabbles.

I confess despite spending much of the mod posts either making up or reading great bunnies on Mel's mod posts, I didn't really find any Second Life Bunnies that totally grabbed me and wouldn't let go. I think I liked the idea in the abstract, but in the practical it didn't work for me. Sadly I think it didn't work for many people since we didn't get much fic for it. /sigh/ Ah well, at this point we're lucky to get any fic at the comm, so we're grateful for each and every one. I'm not sure we'll even do a summer special next year, but we'll see how quiet the fandom is before we decide. Who knows? The show might live on quite nicely on DVD. I, for one, plan on enjoying the episodes again in the future and trying to solicit new fans. It worked for Miracles!

Thanks,

Emma DeMarais

Ooh! A drabble! Well, if I can help with it, LMK. I always enjoy your drabbles.

I tried to stay true to canon but to veer off just enough to make their lives more interesting. I'm glad you liked them.

I thought these were all really sweet and I'd love to see you expand on any and all of them.

Gah! Well, I did write Don and his team as kidnap recovery specialists in my Firefly crossover, so maybe I'll write more of them in that verse so you'll get Don that way. /shrugs/ It might be kind of cool to have Colby in charge of the team fic though. Hmm... Oh, you are such the enabler!

Charlie solved P vs. NP!!!! I'm giving him a big hug, very fitting.

I love all of these, I can completely see everyone taking their careers in this direction.

The Poincare Conjecture got solved, so why not P vs. NP? In fact, there was some news recently about progress on it. :-)

I'm glad the career options I chose work for you. There are so many ways they could go, but I crossed my fingers and picked ones I thought people would like.

Thanks for reading and commenting!
