Numb3rs Fic: A Mentor's Hand
Written for numb3rs100 Challenge #282 – Tease

Title: A Mentor's Hand
Pairing/Characters: Charlie, Larry, Marshall
Rating: PG
Word Count: 100
Spoilers: Sacrifice, Convergence
Summary: A mentor's hand at just the right time can make a big difference
Notes/Warnings: Read the disclaimer on my LJ

Brilliant as he was, Charles Eppes at fourteen was not an accomplished public speaker.

He stuttered and stammered his way through presenting his first paper at Princeton as Larry watched from the back of the auditorium.

At the end Larry reached out and laid his hand on Marshall Penfield's shoulder, watching the student's gleeful and malicious grin evaporate.

"Not a word, Mr. Penfield." Larry rarely used his most grim expression, but saving a child like Charles from a merciless teasing from a heartless rival was worthy of all the gravitas his position as a professor could muster. "Not a word."

Thank you! I wanted to do something a bit less obvious.

Yeah, there are reasons why we adore him. :-)

Because every so often he can bring out the bad ass.

ROFL Larry's about as bad ass as Megan's little finger! But yeah, he's fiercely loyal to those he cares about and that's what matters.

Hey, Megan's little finger is probably lethal under the right conditions. ;-)

Yes. This. I could so see Larry doing that... and I like "grim expression" Larry. We never got to see that too much. Well done as always. :)

I truly wish we could have seen Protective!Mentor!Larry back in the early Princeton days with Charlie. You know the bond between Charlie and Larry had to have started with something very special to be so strong so many years later.

Thank you, hon. ♥
