Numb3rs Fic: A Bracing Cold
Written for numb3rs100 Challenge #316 – Stroke

Title: A Bracing Cold
Series/Universe: A Firm Hand
Pairing/Characters: Don/Ian
Rating: PG13
Word Count: 300
Spoilers: Sniper Zero
Summary: Don may start out numb but Ian won't let him stay that way
Notes/Warnings: Read the disclaimer on my LJ

Tires crunch over gravel as the SUV leaves the paved road.

The entire trip Don's been still, not sleepy, more numb - letting the time slide away into nothingness as Ian drove them into the mountains.

"Out," Ian orders as he snaps off the ignition.

Ian heads around the corner of a rustic cabin. Don follows and sees what looks like an old style outdoor shower: a bucket of saved rainwater on a rope over a small wooden deck.

"Strip."

Don makes a neat pile on the late spring grass: boots with gun and badge inside, jeans, shirt and finally underwear.

Ian doesn't have to order him; he walks to the platform and lets Ian douse him.

A complaint is wrenched from his vocal chords involuntarily. The water is a bracing cold shock to the system, painful enough to wipe all the numbness from mind and body.

Ian pulls out a bar of soap and a coarse brush and sets to work scrubbing him down.

This is what Don imagines decontamination is in quarantine: rough, brisk and impersonal. It also leaves Don feeling his body more than he has in months. Every square inch of him is alive with sensation.

A final dunking with the last of the frigid water leaves him shivering yet feeling oddly renewed.

"Follow me."

Ian stoops to pick up his things and drops them on a table once they get indoors. In one swift movement he rips all the bedding off the four poster in the corner, layer upon layer of quilts, and tosses them in front of the hearth on top of the already thick rug there.

As Ian lights the fire, Don hovers, awaiting instructions.

The stroke of Ian's hand on his thigh is question enough, but Ian still asks.

"Are you sure?"

Confession
Another fic rule broken (or rather the same one again)!

The first drabble in this series was 100 words, the second one a non-standard 200 words and now the third, a totally off standard 300 words!

Since that's the comm max, where do I go from here? Back down to 200 and 100 for symmetry's sake? LOL

Thanks,

Emma DeMarais

apparently I took all my don-only icons down...
Ooooo.... So pretty. I love the scrub-brush. I didn't see that coming, and I really like it. Sensory detail like that brings the whole scene alive! Brava!

Ta!

I wanted to go somewhere slightly different than what people have seen in the past, yet not so far out they were scratching their heads. Hehehe

And who needs Don only when you can have Don+Pretty!

Ian is so Yummy when he's being all commanding around Don.

Agreed! It reminds me of why so many people in our fandom enjoy Ian as part of their competence kink. He just exudes it!

I never considered the idea of a competence kink but I think I must have a big one.

bf: Hi, my car has a good safety rating, I read manuals, I can assemble a computer from scratch, I iron my shirts and I enjoy filling out tax forms. Would you like to move in and one day have my babies?

me: Yes. Yes I would.

HEE! Hold onto that BF!

I like using Eliade's list to show that not all kinks are sexual in nature. I've had people tell me that I ping their competence kink since I'm very take charge and efficient in life. Hehehe And of course there,'s provocateuse.com to show that hands, bare feet and eyeglasses are perfectly good kinks to have. :-)
