Ian's finger curled around the trigger of the sniper rifle, so familiar in his hands it felt like a part of him.

With just the perfect hint of pressure the rifle fired, the bullet tearing a hole in the absolute center of the paper target at the other end of the gun range.

Ian unloaded the gun and put the safety on. Holding the rifle across his lap, he spun his wheelchair around to face down his newest bunch of FBI cadets.

"Anyone think they can do better? Step right up."

There was a buzz of whispering amongst them, but no one responded until a freckly young man named Poe spoke up.

"What could be better than a perfect bull's eye?" he asked respectfully.

Without a word, Ian wheeled himself back into position, loaded the weapon and entered the deepest zone of concentration, the one that had made him second best shot in the country.

He fired a single shot then hit the button to bring the paper in.

"The paper didn't move," a cadet named Jurgenson pointed out, sounding smug. "You missed it entirely."

Poe examined the paper target and let out a low whistle. "He didn't miss..." He held it up for the class to see, pointing to the now ever so slightly larger hole in the center. "He shot through the existing hole."

Ian watched as an awed hush fell over the group.

"And I expect every one of you to be able to do the same at the end of your six weeks with me. So who's first?"

Ian reveled in the raw panic on all their faces, each of them paralyzed with fear.

"Just kidding," he said with a wry chuckle, fully enjoying his power as instructor. "About the volunteer part. Jurgenson? You're going first."

Confession
I confess I can't decide about making this into a real series with How Not to Wake A Sniper or His Boyfriend.

P.S. How many of you were weirded out by the fact that I paralyzed Ian but didn't use him for the prompt?

Thanks,

Emma DeMarais

I think it's great. And I think the students paralyzed with fear is more accurate portrayal of the situation.
