Title: No Scarcity of Love
Pairing/Characters: Book
Rating: PG13
Spoilers: Serenity
Summary: Prompt – Not Enough
Notes/Warnings: Read the disclaimer on my LJ

Haven's a euphemism; Shepherd Derrial Book knows this better than most.

He wasn't under any delusions when he came here to carve out a corner of the 'verse where he could look after a flock very much in need of his care.

There's never enough here: not enough food, not enough fuel, not enough patience. And yet, somehow, in the end he makes it all work. He sleeps the most righteous sleep he could ever imagine, finally free of nightmares of a past life he left behind for good when he made his way into the black with Mal and his crew.

They still come by from time to time, sometimes bringing, sometimes seeking, but they never leave without enriching the community in some way, even if it's by dropping off a few cows with strange brands that might just be obscuring the original.

He takes it all, just like he takes in any comers.

All that come here have known scarcity, but by the good graces of good friends and some erstwhile criminals here there is no scarcity of love.

Oh you wrote Book! I don't know what I was expecting, but it wasn't Book. I really enjoyed this little slice of his life on Haven - far from an easy 'retirement' but satisfying, I'm sure.

/sigh./ You do such a great job with insight!

Oh, this is lovely. Glad Book found some peace here, even if...you know.
