(Six months later.)

"KNX 1070 Radio. It's 3:17 and Darren Ferris is standing by in Pasadena with a Halloween report to share. Darren?"

"Thanks, Edward. I'm here on the site of an unusual Guinness World Record Attempt at Cal Sci in Pasadena. The competition has just completed and we're about to hear from organizer Dr. Charles Eppes and new record holder, 20 year old Physics major Joshua Burke. Dr. Eppes! Please, try to stay close to the microphone. Now, tell us what inspired you to host this record breaking event?"

"Well, we have an annual October event already, but once I saw the record existed I was certain a Cal Sci student could beat it and we could still maintain our tradition afterward!"

"Josh! Thanks for joining us!"

"Whoo!"

"Congratulations on your win and your new place in the Guinness Book of World Records for having carved a ton of pumpkins faster than anyone on earth. What are you going to do now?"

"I'm going to dip the pumpkins I carved in liquid nitrogen and then drop them off the top of the library! And then I'm going to Disneyland!"

Confession
Yes, it's a record!

I confess the inspiration came from the mod post link to the prompt word definition. It really does say, "you can't do that in a university setting" and I took that as a challenge. ;-)

KNX 1070 is a real radio station in SoCal. It just happens to be associated with CBS – the network that aired Numb3rs.

If you missed out on that seemingly endless series of "I'm going to Disneyland!" commercials that I nicked for the ending... Well, I envy you. /grins/

FWIW, the real Cal Tech apparently does do a pumpkin drop. No word on if the band Smashing Pumpkins is the official soundtrack or not. ;-)

Thanks,

Emma DeMarais

rofl yay!

I think that is a challenge that every numbers writer should try. :)

I really enjoyed this. I'd love to see it! (put it in the movie!)

Priceless and a good use of the pumpkins.

Well, that was a nice way to start the day! And leave it to Charlie to find a way to break the record and still keep to tradition.

And who says you can't do that in a university setting? It is a place for learning, and they did learn that Josh can carve pumpkins faster than anyone on the planet. Hee!

hahaha! Brilliant! I love the idea of keeping with tradition but throwing in some extra fun! Perfection.
