Series/Universe: Two Brothers
Pairing/Characters: Don, Charlie
Rating: PG
Word Count: 100

Summary: Don and Charlie celebrate closing their first official case together
Notes/Warnings: Read the disclaimer on my LJ

"Great job on that money laundering data." Don pulled two beers out of the refrigerator and handed Charlie one. "They didn't get away with it, thanks to the Brothers Eppes!" Don clinked his bottle with Charlie's.

"Happy to help."

"Actually, they're talking about making my team exclusively violent crime, which means no more fraud cases and back to teaching for you."

"I kind of like mixing things up: teaching and consulting," Charlie said thoughtfully. "I'd like to keep working cases with you."

"Yeah, but violent crime? That's not numbers! Math can't help with that."

Charlie smiled serenely.

"You'd be surprised..."

This is fic number 31 out of 31 in the Two Brothers Series.

I confess I can't believe it's over.

Two Brothers - the fic that began this series - was published a year ago on 12/14. It's taken me a year to complete this series and I've grown quite fond of it in that time. It's interesting to me that the series scope is a year as well - the year between Margaret's death and the beginning of the show. I guess the relationship unfolded in something akin to real time despite how scattered these fic are over the last twelve months. What's also interesting is that it's about the same time of year, given that the show premiered in January, that these events might have happened. Go figure...

This post also marks a second major milestone. As of this fic I've now officially written *every* prompt at numb3rs100. The first fic I posted on LJ back on 11/9 of 2005 was for N100. It was prompt #32 Metamorphosis. (Don't go back and read it. It's bloody awful.) At the time the mod of the comm minttown1 didn't allow fic on past prompts so I was stuck starting midway through. She did the first 50 prompts then turned over the comm to myself and my then future slashwife melissima. One of the first things we did as comm co-mods was change the rules so that fic written for past prompts was welcome with open arms.

Mel and I encouraged drabble series as often as we could get away with without becoming horrid nags /grins/, but somehow a long series to include those early prompts took me months to get going. Actually I still feel like the only major Numb3rs author on LJ to *not* have an ongoing reusable universe to my name. Now that this series is done though I can launch my next big drabbleverse which *will* be ongoing and reusable. (I'll leak two bits of it for now: Don/Billy and Charlie+NSA) My intention is to go back and write all of the N100 prompts a second time within a single universe. (Not in order this time - I'm not a *complete* masochist! LOL)

I am considering a new gen Don and Charlie centric series to replace Two Brothers as well. If I pick up where I left off I'll be writing alongside canon, but that might not be a bad thing given how much time has passed since Season 1. I'm letting the idea stew in my head for now. It might be a drabble series, it might not be. It might even be a hybrid. /gasp/ (I can't even mix 100 and 200 word fic in the same drabble series so me mixing drabbles and not drabbles? It's unheard of! Gah!)

For now, I have to smile when I read this fic. Charlie may know, but Don? He really doesn't understand just how many applications there are for applied mathematics.

But he's going to learn now.

And Charlie's just the one to teach him.

Thank you to everyone who read this series and to all of my betas/f-listers who gave feedback along the way. It's been a great ride...

I'm actually sorry to see this one end as well. It was a great view into the lives of these two men. At least the prospect of a similar gen 'verse in out there, that I will look forward to.

And YAY for all the N100 prompts. It's my goal as well, once I get my muse to play along. As always, so great to see you write and publish.

And you are correct, Don has NO idea whaty math can do for him...

Don is definitely gonna be surprised! Watch out, Don, once you've let the math genius into your playground, he's gonna stay! *g*

Wow! Emma, you're amazing! I thought I was doing well doing all of the 15 minute prompts over at numb3rs.org, but you've got me beat hands down.

I'm not a huge fan of slash, so I'm waiting anxiously for your next foray into the wonderful world of gen.

Thank you. There are actually quite a few authors who have written 100 or more prompts at N100 - I'm actually pretty far behind them! /is embarrassed/ I think we have about a half dozen who've taken on the task of writing at least 100 if not all and my co-mod and I are thrilled to no end.

I'm not a huge fan of slash, so I'm waiting anxiously for your next foray into the wonderful world of gen.

This statement interests me because the assumption is that I am a slash author who must make a 'foray' into gen in order to write it.

I have finally put all of my fic into Memories. Go take a look. As of this moment I have 148 gen fic that are PG13 or below. In comparison, I have 72 R/NC17 slash fic and 37 PG13 slash fic for a total of 109 - way less than my gen fic.

So to be more precise, I'm actually a *gen* author who makes forays into *slash*.

For reasons I don't quite understand, people tend to view me as a slash author despite these cold hard facts.

So feel free to ignore my slash and even ignore my het (43 more fic that aren't slash) if that's not your cup of tea either.

But there's *plenty* of gen here to enjoy, never fear...

Congratulations! It's a brilliant series and I'm sorry to see it end, but it's great to know that there are more series on the way. And I'm looking forward to more Don/Billy.

A lovely drabble to end a lovely series.

You're not the only one who's grown quite fond of this series - we all have too!

"You'd be surprised..."

And so it begins... Don has no idea what he's letting himself in for! *g*
