Wow...

This is really different, Emma. But I like it. It's sad, but to be honest if I sit down and think about it, I can see Oswald doing this if put into too much: stress, etc.

And I love the title. =)
Emma DeMarais: BlueEyeemmademarais on January 30th, 2008 07:48 am (UTC)
Thanks! I like doing my little experiments like this and I love a good shocking ending. Bwahahaha!

I know the slogan is for the United Negro College Fund, but it fit the idea of Oswald's talents being lost to the world.

I have my own ideas of what went wrong, but I figured I can let the story be in the mind of the reader this time.
fredbassettfredbassett on January 28th, 2008 12:37 pm (UTC)
Excellently done! And yes, it was definitely sad.
Emma DeMarais: BlueEyeemmademarais on January 30th, 2008 07:49 am (UTC)
Thank you! I never know how my little experiments will go over so I'm just chuffed beyond belief at how many comments this one got!

Not upset. It just means you're pretty astute. If Charlie died now his mind would not have been wasted. He's done quite a bit in his ~30 years so while it would be a tragedy it would not be a case of him getting cut off before he could do anything.

I miss Oswald. Thank god I have Kit to play with in Vice!

Good heavens. Where did THAT come from?
Emma DeMarais: BlueEyeemmademarais on January 30th, 2008 07:52 am (UTC)
My twisted mind? My twisted muse? No clue. ;-)

::sniffles:: so sad... and very effective....

Thanks, hon.

Awww... Poor Oswald. I had no idea where you were going with this. It didn't occur to me that the victim was somebody we knew. I thought this was the first chapter of a murder mystery.

I still think it could be part one. I don't think Oswald would commit suicide. He seems too fundamentally "upbeat" to take his own life.

And, of course, just because his cell phone was at the scene, doesn't meant that Oswald was the victim...
Emma DeMarais: BlueEyeemmademarais on January 30th, 2008 07:58 am (UTC)
I like that you didn't know where I was going with this. The whole idea was to make people go huh until the end. /evil grin/ (Although I bet plenty of people were going HUH even after the end.)

I agree, Oswald would not purposefully take his own life. This was (in my mind anyway) an accidental death. He's got friends and friends mean peer pressure and even smoking a little pot can lead to unforeseen circumstance and unfortunate ones as well.

Those who don't want to believe this is deathfic can go for the not Oswald perception, but it's him as far as I'm concerned.

What I didn't have space to fit in the fic was that it's easy enough to run the cell phone name through the DMV to get a picture to compare to the body. They'd have IDed Oswald that way in order to figure out next of kin.
telperion_15telperion_15 on January 28th, 2008 08:49 pm (UTC)
Not who I was expecting it to be (although, I'm actually not sure who I was expecting it to be...) Very effective.
Emma DeMarais: BlueEyeemmademarais on January 30th, 2008 07:59 am (UTC)
Thanks.

I figured a few people might suspect Charlie, but mostly they'd just be going huh until the end.

Oswald's a minor enough character (two episodes only) so he's not who you think of right off, but he is one of the smart ones on the show so he's valid.
CeriseRevecerisereve on January 29th, 2008 12:05 am (UTC)
Ack! *Sob* I was not expecting that at all!

Lucky for you I'm not this evil *that* often. :-)
autumnwritingautumnwriting on January 29th, 2008 03:59 am (UTC)
...wow!

I must say that was unexpected.

Congratulations of founding a new kind of drabble!
Emma DeMarais: BlueEyeemmademarais on January 30th, 2008 08:02 am (UTC)
Sadly, I can't take the credit for it. I wish I could. One person actually made a *visual* fic with a *real* form. It was so cool... /covets/

This was just a riff on a few other fic of this kind I'd read long ago. They're not frequent or popular, but I think the format works for certain kinds of stories.
rubynye: Minoan Ladyrubynye on December 31st, 2008 11:12 pm (UTC)
I am *so* glad this isn't the way it went.

Also, I *love* how you told this. You have so many ways of telling stories, each more awesome than the last.

(And, I'm thinking about the story classification assignment you gave me. *wink*)
Emma DeMaraisemmademarais on December 31st, 2008 11:21 pm (UTC)
Thanks!

I really wanted to mock up a real form for this, but I made do with just the data format.

(Assignment? My memory's a memory. /hides, embarrassed/)

I adore Kit (Oswald in my Viceworld) so it was hard to kill him the character this, but this is just a Bizarro world Oswald to me. It wouldn't really happen.
