Notes/Warnings: Read the disclaimer on my LJ

"It can't be done!"

"Charlie, we need a hot zone!"

"You needing it doesn't make the data magically work, Don."

"This is getting us nowhere," Megan muttered, sitting off to the side with Amita.

"Charlie's right," Amita told her quietly. "The data won't work for the hot zone equation."

"Okay, but there's got to be something we can glean from all this data! We need a fresh lead – any lead." A look of determination came over Megan's face. "So we can't tell the zone where he might be living or where he might strike next. What can we figure out?"

Amita stared at the screen, thinking. "What if instead of telling you where he is we could tell you what kind of area he'd be in?"

"Go on," Megan urged.

"We have factors here that could statistically profile a type of neighborhood: socio-economic, ethnicity..."

"And if you could statistically profile the neighborhood I could match it up with census data to pinpoint specific areas within L.A. more likely to contain his base of operations."

Amita looked doubtful. "But we could be talking dozens of zones not one or two."

Megan waved off her concern. "It should be enough to get the list of ex-cons who fit the profile out of the thousands and into the hundreds. Hundreds we can work with." She lifted her head. "Don! We might have something."

Don and Charlie stopped bickering abruptly and approached. "What is it?"

"Amita thinks we can rework the multiple hot zone equation to generate a list of a few dozen neighborhoods that we can cross check with known felons to narrow down the suspect list."

"They're no longer hot zones at that point," Charlie grumbled.

"Call them warm zones," Megan offered.

"Not arguing semantics!" Don said. "We'll take it!"

Oh, I love it when Megan and Amita put their heads together. What episode was it when Megan called and asked to talk to Amita?

I've always wanted to try sending the boys club off somewhere and letting Megan, Liz, Amita, and Millie catch a case. I love that you gave me a bit of that feeling in this one. \o/

How funny. We posted at the exact same moment. Timestamp-wise at least.
You still beat me, though...

Yeah! An all girl's case would be great. Especially if Terry were in it. (She's still character o' da month!)

By the way, the episode you're thinking of is "One Hour" when Megan wanted to know if Amita could track VoIP calls.

Go girls!
Leave it to the females to make things happen.

Hee, I really happen to like *your* Amita!
Warm zones. Lol.
perhaps some frottage is in order: [numb3rs] Megan/Amitasororcula on February 29th, 2008 12:52 am (UTC)

Great drabble!

Not only did you get in some nice characterization - Don and Charlie butting heads, Megan and Amita keeping calm - you managed to get in some nice math/profiling in here.

Yes! My brilliant, beautiful female role models!

(And, to answer the question my last random comment sparked, you had asked me to think of ways to organize the entries. I'm thinking, hence the cloud of smoke in my apartment.)

Hee! I wanted the women to get a chance to pwn the men for a change, so this fic made me happy. Amita doesn't get enough chance to shine and they *never* used Megan's behavioral analysis skills well IMHO.

Ahh, I feel bad about you considering it an assignment though! I didn't mean for you to do any *work*. More like, 'hmm I like pairings so perhaps memories by pairing?' or some such.

Hurray for women with intelligence and wisdom and agency!

Yes, yay!

Now I kind of want to write an AU where Megan is the team lead over Don and Amita is the genius with Charlie as her sidekick. /gets dreamy eyes/

Thank you for coming to read! :-)
