Written for numb3rs100 Challenge #151 – Devotion

Title: An Act of Devotion
Series/Universe: Staring Down the Barrel of a Gun
Pairing/Characters: Don, Charlie
Rating: PG13
Word Count: 100
Spoilers: None
Notes/Warnings: Read the disclaimer on my LJ

It's midnight by the time he and Charlie drive up to the house.

Please... Let him be okay, please...

Charlie's useless, immobile. Don manages to get him up to his room, out of the clothes he plans on throwing away and into bed.

"I did it for you."

Charlie's voice is foreign, hollow.

"I told you when I was thirteen I'd do anything for you. I guess... I guess I finally did."

It takes a double dose of sleeping pills, but his eyes eventually close.

It's Don who suffers the painful vigil, waiting for the nightmares to commence.

Oh... *hugs the boys*

The irony is that Don would have done anything to protect Charlie from this.

"I told you when I was thirteen I'd do anything for you. I guess... I guess I finally did."

I'm kind of intrigued by this line! Hmm.

Oh no. Charlie's line about doing anything is so powerful. And the last line about the nightmares...

Great piece, Emma.
