Numb3rs Fic: Inside the Mind
Written for numb3rs100 Challenge #154 – Mind

Title: Inside the Mind
Pairing/Characters: Don, Charlie
Rating: PG
Word Count: 100
Spoilers: None
Summary: A glimpse inside the mind of a brilliant man
Notes/Warnings: Read the disclaimer on my LJ

Swirling, flowing, more whirlpool than maelstrom the numbers - the equations - float into and across his consciousness. They merge, combine into one fluid concept bringing revelation, insight and an awe of understanding that he's never experienced before.

Fluid solidifies into theories, into approaches. A path appears. A destination glimpsed in the distance previously unreachable.

His muscles twitch with the anticipation of action, neurons firing in preparation for fast flight, for the chase.

For an arrest.

Don stops Charlie from explaining further, hand on his shoulder nodding to him in acceptance, in appreciation.

In understanding.

"I've got it," he tells his brother.

Surprise! The fic takes place inside *Don's* mind, not Charlie's.

Welcome back! Nice to see you around, hope you're doing better.

And this is clever, showing us an insight into Don, rather than Charlie. Although we have seen on the show, that Don does get more than we might think, numbers-wise. I'm thinking of Charlie explaining about Colby and Dwayne's escape in Trust Metric and Larry's comment about Don getting the math more (I forget the exact wording).

What a very nice twist. And I loved your description of the awe that Don has never experienced before. When is he going to accept that he's not as dumb as he thinks he is?

I love it, Emma.

I really like that had this from Don's mind. I think sometimes it's a misconception that Don doesn't get what Charlie is talking about or that he's not smart.

Very nice!

Nice one! Too often people get the idea that Don is not smart. But the FBI doesn't hire stupid. And Don rose through the ranks way to quickly to even be on the low end of the FBI IQ scale.

To paraphrase you, consider this a clap on the shoulder in appreciation.

Oh I heart this one. :) it totally makes sense that Don would experience understanding with a physical urge for action, too.

Yep, I guessed totally wrong, as usual.

Lovely :)
