Numb3rs Fic: New York July Hot
Written for numb3rs100 Challenge #168 – New York

Title: New York July Hot
Pairing/Characters: David
Rating: PG
Word Count: 100
Spoilers: Season 1
Summary: David goes back to the old neighborhood to shoot some hoops
Notes/Warnings: Read the disclaimer on my LJ

New York July hot, sun beating down, sticky sweat on the back of the neck.

Jerome Avenue hasn't seen the likes of him in years. Here he's not just David from down East 192nd Street; that's Agent Sinclair to you, punk. Show some respect to your elders.

He sets foot on the cracked blacktop in high-tops, old school they call him, spinning the basketball on trigger callused fingers.

The pickup game really picks up and it's black and white, kids and mentors, beat cops and beat boys all mixing it up in the Bronx on a hot summer day.

I confess I stole (from here) the street names from a real Bronx rec center.

No clue if they have basketball courts there.

as rich a subject as it would seem to be to me, we don't get a lot of david going back to the hood. damn cocky and damn sexy - in equal parts - i'm sure he'd be...

Poor David was there first but now he gets overshadowed by Colby who gets all the choice lines. I like him, but he never gets a chance to shine. I figured in this fic? It could be all about him for a change.

This is the one of the first fics I've read in months (maybe the first; that should indicate how connected I haven't been to fic), and I'm glad I did. You know I love David, so I couldn't resist. I really love the David from down East 192nd Street because I was watching some comedian (maybe on Last Comic Standing) that was talking about how people from New York are like the only people in the world who tell you which street they're from when introducing themselves. I'm not sure if you were aware of that; I think it's an awesome element of reality that you've added to the piece.

When I wrote last week's Terry fic I thought of sororcula who I know likes Terry. When I picked David for this week I knew that some people really liked him - yourself included - and that there would be a tiny group who would appreciate a David solo fic.

I've got New York blood in my veins /grins/ so the street thing I just knew through some sort of osmosis or genetics or something. LOL

I'm flattered that you chose to read my fic when there's so many others out there. Thanks. It seems I picked a good time to pick David...

Good grief. You made me homesick!

(Like David, I am from the Bronx.)

I win!

Truly that's a great compliment, thank you!

My family is pretty much all a bunch of New Yorkers save me, so is it possible to be homesick for something you never had?

Thanks, Juliet!

I may sneak up into the 200s and 300s, but I love the purity of storytelling in the original 100 word form.

Very nice, Emma. I really like the way you have such a strong visual in the words.

Thanks! I've been working on my descriptive writing in the past year. Nice to know the effort is paying off.

You know what? Even if I'm so far away, I could see every little detail you described. It was like if I was really there, beside David!

That, of course, means that you're an incredibly talented author... but of course, I guess you already knew that. ;)

/blushes/ Thank you. I've been working on my visuals and this one didn't turn out half bad for 100 words...
