Numb3rs Fic: In Principle
Written for numb3rs100 Challenge #33 - Uncertainty

Title: In Principle
Pairing/Characters: Charlie, Don
Rating: PG
Word Count: 100
Spoilers: None (Possible unintentional for In Plain Sight)
Summary: Charlie looks at the names of agents who've died in the line of duty
Notes/Warnings: Read the disclaimer on my LJ

Charlie ran his fingers over the newly engraved brass plate that bore the name of the FBI agent who'd died in the line of duty.

His fingers roamed up to the previous name: Matthew McKnight.

His fingers came to rest on the wood between the two names.

"Charlie..."

Don's voice behind him was comforting enough, but nothing could erase the vision Charlie saw every time he closed his eyes.

"You could have been right here," he said softly.

"Theoretically, yes," Don agreed. "But in reality, I’m not."

"You were lucky."

"No, I had a brother who told me about Heisenberg."

I love when angst gets a 'yay'! ;-) Thanks...

"You were lucky."

"No, I had a brother who told me about Heisenberg."

That is absolutely perfect. It's very sweet.
Emma DeMarais: BlueEyeemmademarais on November 17th, 2005 07:54 am (UTC)
Thank you. I struggled over ending it there just like that, but it really said what I wanted it to say so I left it as is.

I love the 'Please beat the odds' icon! So perfect!

Thanks,

Awww, this is so sweet. I love this glimpse into Charlie's character; I think his fear of losing Don takes up a big space in their relationship (and also explains why I think of Charlie as a clingy little brother). Lovely drabble! :)

Oh, and by the way, I friended you. It'll be easier for me to keep track of your stories that way. Plus, I really liked exchanging comments with you.
Emma DeMarais: BlueEyeemmademarais on December 7th, 2005 12:08 am (UTC)
Me too!

Sorry I'm late in replying to this one. Evidently I'm not getting email notification for all my comments so this one slipped past my notice. Mea culpa!

I do think Charlie's fear of losing his only sibling is a major factor in their interpersonal relations. Slash them, and the factor grows exponentially. ;-)

You friended me? That sounds like a good thing, so thank you! I'm so new to LJ that I'll have to go look up what that means. ;-)

Thanks,

Emma DeMarais

That's quite all right. None of us is getting all of their notifications at the moment. It's tough, but we're dealing. ;)

Losing Don would be devastating to Charlie, I think. I'd really like to explore the other side of that, though...

Oh, it isn't complicated at all - I simply added your journal to my friends list, which results in your entries turning up on my friends page.

Thanks. I'll get the hang of this LJ thing sooner or later. ;-)

Don losing Charlie? If that's the case, explore away!

Thanks,

Emma DeMarais

Looks like you're doing fine already! Thanks for adding me back, by the way. I really appreciate it. :)

Well, I already did an exploration of sorts, but I didn't really like how it turned out, so I decided against posting it. It was a good exercise to stretch my creative wings, though. ;)
Emma DeMarais: BlueEyeemmademarais on December 14th, 2005 06:58 am (UTC)
Decided *against* posting it? /frowns/ /grumbles/

Why? You should post it! This fandom needs more fic! At least send it to me! /grovels/ /pouts/

I'm sure it's wunderbar. /grins/

Thanks,

Emma DeMarais

Well, I kinda liked it when I wrote it, but looking at it now? Not so much. I guess I could polish it, flesh it out some more, but I'd rather work on something else. Thanks for your interest, though! I'll be so bold and send it to you in a minute. :) (Oh, and I don't know if you've noticed, but I went ahead and posted a little Numb3rs ficlet here. Feel free to ignore it. ;)
Emma DeMarais: BlueEyeemmademarais on December 14th, 2005 10:17 am (UTC)
Well, I'm taking my response to this to email, but I will say that you, meine Freundin, need to be writing much more Numb3rs fic and more people need to be reading it!

Thanks,

Emma DeMarais

"No, I had a brother who told me about Heisenberg."

I truly, really love this quote very, very much!
This ending is so perfect.
