The Winter Tales Series was conceived as gift fic for asemic many years ago. I had intended to do three and see how they went. Unfortunately, as it turns out, the first two went swimmingly. But the third? Took me three years to publish. /headdesk/

The idea was to retell classic fairy tales as Don and Charlie stories. They're all gen, but can easily be viewed with slash goggles on if you like that sort of thing. *cough*

Red Riding Hood and Sleeping Beauty made for nice flash fic, but East of the Sun West of the Moon as a fairy tale is already really long, so it should have been obvious to me that it would make a long fic as well. I wrote it as a gift for Ley's birthday in 2006. Technically I got it done in time (I emailed her a first draft by her actual birthday) however the fic needed work so I only published the shorter two.

And into rewrite hell East went. And stayed. And even after I put on a new ending? It still stayed. My dread of the project was so bad I *forgot* I wrote a new ending. Imagine my surprise when I discovered I had an ending, I'd just remembered it wrong because I still didn't like it that much.

So after finally rewriting the crap out of it I decided it was going up in 2009 no matter what.

And it did.

I can't tell you how glad I was to have that fic off my to do list. Seriously.

I'm leaving the series open ended since I love fairy tales and the challenge of rewriting them intrigued me, but since Ley's no longer in the Numb3rs fandom? The reason behind it is gone. Still, liking fairy tales is enough reason for me so if more pop up on this list? The more the merrier.

Or so they say in tales... ;-)
