“David! We've got company!”

Liz pointed to the thermal blobs which broke apart and became several heat signatures joined by others rushing up at a clip.

“That's way too many! This isn't a trap, it's an ambush!” David readied his assault rifle. “We're going in! All units converge on the plaza now!”

They piled out of the van and bolted across the street as Colby and Tim's SWAT team headed there from the other side of the plaza.

“FBI!" David shouted as dark figures became visible. "Put down your weapons!”

The response came loud and clear – a hail of bullets.

Tim took the lead from the north side of the plaza and almost immediately grabbed Colby and pulled him down behind a cement planter as at least a half-dozen armed men revealed themselves from their hiding places in the bushes - all firing automatic weapons.

"Take cover! Hold your positions!" Tim yelled into his comm.

"These guys are too well armed," Colby exclaimed, trying to rise enough to get a visual only to hear a fresh flurry of bullets coming his way. "There's too many of them!"

Tim's eyes met Colby's with a grim nod.

"David, we need more backup!"

Unarmed and caught in the crossfire, Don dove under the bench - the only shelter around.

In the commotion it took a few seconds to notice a tiny red light and a second more to recover from the adrenaline rush as he recognized what it was attached to: a bomb.

Some bomb makers signed their work. Whoever made this made it clear why they'd built it. “Die Jew!” was written in red letters right next to the pressure sensor attached to the top of the bench.

They hadn't surrounded him to shoot him; they'd come to watch him blown to bits.

The vision of those red letters is stuck in my mind now as I re-read this. Don needs to get out from beneath that bench.

And you got Tim here too!

Yes! Tim! I was struck with the desire to write an AU where Tim and Colby are actual brothers on the show too. /grins/ I liked the idea of Tim being protective of Colby like a big brother would be.

Don's certainly between a rock and a hard place: stay there and hope they don't have a remote detonator or go out in the open and almost certainly get shot.

Decisions, decisions...

I watch Criminal Minds and I was thinking about a scene where Garcia was watching Morgan rebuild a bomb from fragments and asking him questions about it. I know a bombmaker's signature is based how they make their devices, but this was a way of 'signing' it that told so much more about them than the fuses they chose. /shudder/

Hope you're feeling better today, hon!

/sends you muse cookies to fortify you/

I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with this month's prompts. They're so dramatic! And I'm dying to see what people do with the Rewind. I anticipate a lot of babyfic, but there are always people who surprises us and use the Rewind prompts in fresh ways we didn't expect.

Hey I'm all for babyfic! But then I'm evil. I wrote Don/Robin where their first child was stillborn. /hides/ (I gave them a second baby that was healthy!)

OMG, DON!!!!!!

I would compliment you on how well you worked Tim King in there (pulling Colby away from gunfire, natch) and how gorgeously characterized they all are, and how vividly and clearly this was written and so on, but I'm too busy having an attack of the vapors. DON!!!!!!!!!!!

/offers you fainting couch/
/fans you/

Things don't look good for our Don, do they?

Frying pan, fire, big boom... Hmm... Not his day...

Go Tim though! I like him looking out for Colby. :-)

Thanks for putting a big smile on my face. /beams/

Ahhhhh, I want to know what happens!!!!

Great work, btw! :)

Thanks! It's funny that even though I'm a mod I can't post the remaining fic ahead of when the prompts are released! LOL /waits impatiently/

Haha, that's awful, but I love it.

*waits impatiently with you*

Curses! Snared by my own trap! Hehehe

Wow. So many things to love; lots of action, Tim King pulling Colby to safety!, and OMG, Don way too close to a racist bomb! I knew this would be exciting and you certainly didn't disappoint. I'll be watching for the next installment when you are free to post it.
Emma DeMaraisemmademarais on May 13th, 2009 01:38 am (UTC)
Thanks! I'm itching to post it so having to wait a whole week to put it up isn't just going to bug the readers! (And I *know* what happens! LOL)

I do admit this series is making me want to write some Tim and Colby in danger centric fic. I'm liking them as a team.

Thanks for your great comment!

Proper words failed me so I just flailed around on my keyboard... There was nothing else I could except hunt you down and force you to post the next part NOW!!!

And of course I would feed you cookies and popcorn and such... :)

*sorry, am in a bit of a silly mood right now...*

I would love to post it! There's just that pesky problem of having to wait until the next two prompts are posted at N100 first.

/glares at calendar/
/taps foot/

You know, sometimes being a mod isn't an advantage. ;-)

What will I do until then?

Flail around some more?

Or maybe continue writing my own stuff... I am stuck at part 14, unfortunately...
Emma DeMaraisemmademarais on May 13th, 2009 09:40 pm (UTC)
Stuck sucks. /frowns/

I suppose you could write something for fun, not in the series...

Stupid thing with me is that I can only concentrate on the series right now *headdesk*

Aaaalthough, remember the one post- conversation we had last week about dancing??? And wedding- fic or drabbles?
I had an idea, playing around with those, so I might distract myself that way...

After more than 11 years of reading fanfic and especially about a gazillion of those especially, I will try my hands at 5 ways he did not and 1 way he did- blablabla... *evil cackle*

Everybody be awaaaaareeee!!!
