Numb3rs Fic: I Do
Written for numb3rs100 Reader Reward

Title: I Do
Pairing/Characters: Alan/Margaret
Rating: PG13
Word Count: 200
Spoilers: UP
Summary: Alan and Margaret at the beginning and end of their married life
Notes/Warnings: Read the disclaimer on my LJ

She's never been so nervous.

But as Margaret smooths the satin of her gown she sees in the mirror the wife to be, the grown woman her mother promised she'd become when she bemoaned at thirteen that no boy would ever like her.

Alan loves her.

This, she's sure of.

-

He's never been so anxious.

But as Alan takes his place by the rabbi he feels a surge of responsibility, of pride at being a husband with his own family, the way his father promised he'd feel when he first proposed.

Margaret loves him.

This, he'd swear by.

-

"I do."

+

She's never been so scared.

But as her husband takes her hand, Margaret feels his strength and is calmed by the presence of the man who has been her rock for three decades - nowhere near long enough.

She loves him.

But it's time to go.

-

He's never been so lost.

But as he watches his wife's eyes flutter closed, Alan's filled to overflowing with love for this amazing woman who has filled his life with joy and his house with wonderful children.

He loves her.

But he has to let her go.

-

"I'd marry you all over again," he whispers.

Confession
This fic was custom written for riverotter1951 as part of the Reader's Dozen promotion at numb3rs100 back in late 2006. /hides in shame/ (The computer that had all my records for N100 reward fic died a horrible death so if there's anyone left who earned fic and didn't get it, please let me know! Lee, I'm still waiting for the Wildcard bunny to return to me. /glares at muse. Sorry!) She earned the maximum two fic and I figured it would be nice to make them related in a kind of mini-series.

She asked for Alan/Margaret with a prompt of Marriage. I started out with lovely wedding fic, but the angster in me just had to end it on a bittersweet note. Yes, I am an evil author who wants readers to cry so forgive me!

Thank you to riverotter1951 for supporting numb3rs100 (and for your patience!). I hope you enjoy this little look into the enduring love of Alan and Margaret.

Thanks,

Emma DeMarais

=(

But this was fantastic and I love the breaking up of both of their thoughts.

Thanks. I think it turned out rather nicely even if it is kind of heartbreaking.

I wish I could say something more articulate, but all I can say is that this... was just wonderful. Beautiful story. Damn near made me cry.

Thank you very much. I like the way you showed the beginning and the ending of their life together.

I hope the Wildcard bunny returns. Offers the Muse a box of Belgian truffles.
