Numb3rs Fic: Fragile Creatures
Written for numb3rs100 Challenge #229 – Break

Title: Fragile Creatures
Series/Universe: Regret to Inform
Pairing/Characters: Megan/Larry, OCs
Rating: PG13
Word Count: 300
Spoilers: Seasons 2-3
Summary: Megan goes under the knife to try to save her life
Notes/Warnings: Read the disclaimer on my LJ

The hospital wanted Megan there at 5AM to prep for surgery; Larry didn't sleep.

At her whispered plea the night before he'd showered her body with affection, knowing she would remember this as her last night 'whole' as she put it, despite his arguments to the contrary.

On the way there she squeezed his hand so tightly in the back of the limousine it hurt, sharp as the first rays of dawn piercing sleepy eyes. Larry didn't let go.

They offered her the services of a chaplain. She turned them down, saying she'd brought her own personal monk for spiritual care, leaving him humbled and honored.

She cried through his heartfelt words of solace, but swore it was from gratitude for his presence. Larry didn't cry until they wheeled her away.

A double mastectomy is not a minor operation. Larry didn't sleep in the waiting room. While Megan's father fiercely paced the scant six feet of open space and her mother twisted the rings on her long elegant fingers, he sat in silence, as invisible to them as a wavelength beyond their perception.

In recovery, Megan asked for her mother. When they moved her into her own room, she asked for her father. Then she sent them home and asked for Larry.

He didn't leave her side. Every time a nurse tried to eject him - visiting hours over - he'd produce his FBI credentials and sternly inform them Agent Reeves was under protection.

Megan slept only fitfully, pain marring her rest. Each time she woke he soothed her back into healing slumber with a soft kiss.

Larry didn't sleep; he'd vowed to make sure the fragile creature laying broken in the bed grew strong again even if he had to ignore the cracks threatening to shatter the fragile creature inside him.

Yes, not only breast cancer, but a double mastectomy. Ow.

I like my angst. /nods/

Very special thanks to beta melissima for her assistance with this fic.

This is so sad but also hopeful. Larry is made of win in this, I just love him for his devotion.

This series is absolutely breaking my heart, and yet making me ACHE for Megan/Larry. I'm assuming there's more... *pleads* :)

Actually I just wrote the final two fic in the series in the last hour or so. Mel's seen them, but they need serious rewrites. (OMG way too long!) They should be up on Monday and Tuesday though. As promised no death and no depressing ending either! Yay!

I'm happy you're reading the series though. Thank you!

I'm really glad to know there are two more pieces coming to this. I can't wait to read. This series is beautiful poetic no matter how incredibly heart wrenching. LOVE IT.

I also loved last month's Colby series but I can't seem to remember if I told you that or not. I'm WAY behind.

/blushes/ I'm really glad you like it. Since I'm using all of N100's September prompts it's for sure four fic long.

I had to laugh at the premiere after that series (even though LadyGray gave me the Colby in politics bunny) with the whole Colby in politics comment David made. /dies/ I really hope she writes her bunny. It's way better than mine, but I did like how that series turned out.

As far as fic reading goes no one is more behind than I in the fandom so no worries. I'm just gratified that you make time to read any of my fic, so thank you. /hugs/
