Numb3rs Fic: Tiny Tim
Posted to numb3rs_fic

Title: Tiny Tim
Pairing/Characters: Tim King, Don, Colby, David, Megan, OCs
Rating: PG
Spoilers: Judgment Call, Chinese Box
Summary: Never underestimate what a premature baby can grow up to become
Notes/Warnings: Read the disclaimer on my LJ

"He's so small..."

"The doctor said he's healthy, Patty. Nothing to worry about," Tom King assured his wife. "He might wind up small being preemie, but we'll love him just as much as if he was normal sized."

"Our Tiny Tim..."

"Okay, children! Line up by height!"

Mrs. Halsted helped ease the fifth graders in order, almost automatically steering Tim towards the end.

"Um, Mrs. Halsted?"

She looked at the line up in front of her to find that Tiny Tim King was at least four inches taller than the boy next to him.

"Goodness! I guess you've grown, little man!"

Colby almost fell off his chair laughing.

"Get out!"

"Dude, you cannot be serious!" David marveled at Tim, shaking his head. "You're taller than all of us!"

"And you're at least one weight class up in sports if not two," Don added, grinning as the waitress put down fresh beers in front of all of them.

"Swear to god," Tim told them. "Only nickname I've ever had in my life is Tiny Tim."

"Time to change that tradition," Megan purred teasingly. She got up and walked around the table, holding out her hand to Tim. "Want to dance, Big Guy?"

"My pleasure," he said with a nod, rising. At the chorus of protests and cat calls that followed from the rest of the team as Megan led him to the dance floor, Tim just turned back with a smirk. "Hey, it's good to be King!"

Yet more end of year fic finishing!

This poor redheaded stepchild fic started life in January of 2007 as one of the Winter Tales - Tom Thumb. The idea was to make Charlie a preemie and thus a tiny kid and have him go through parallels of Tom Thumb's adventures in much the same way the other Winter Tales told Don and Charlie stories with fairy tale plots. Sadly, it sucked and never got past a handful of words.

I finally decided to kill it as a Winter Tale and thus preserve the quality level of that series and change it from Charlie to Tim King. I liked the idea of Tim being someone in his youth one wouldn't expect to grow into a strapping SWAT team leader.

But alas, I couldn't make it work with A Christmas Carol either (though I liked the idea of a crutch using little Tim finally getting the operation he needed to walk properly, it was fraught with all sorts of problems). So I gave up on that, kept Tim and the title and decided to just go with a short fic using the first bit from the original and just focusing on the preemie grows big and strong angle.

Thank the universe it's over. I'm so ready to forget about this one. Still, this is the third old partial fic I've completed in one day so I'm glad about that. (I promise not all of them are old cruddy ones I want to get rid of! I swear!)

Oh, and if anyone's forgotten who Tim King is or what he looks like? He's played by Chris Bruno - older brother of Dylan Bruno (aka Colby).

P.S. Just to give you an idea of how old this fic is compared to where I stand now, in the numbering of all my Numb3rs fic that I've begun ever (straight up fic, not crossovers) this was number 208. The recently published Sons and Brothers? Was number 559.

I'm glad you enjoyed it! It's just little bit of nothing, but if it makes a few people smile that makes me glad I did it.
