Numb3rs Fic: Alpha vs. Alpha
Written for numb3rs100 Challenge November 2009 Rewind – Muscle, Tense, Strength, Relinquish

Title: Alpha vs. Alpha
Pairing/Characters: Billy/Ian
Rating: R
Word Count: 400
Spoilers: Sniper Zero, Man Hunt
Summary: Two alpha males on the same case clash in competition
Notes/Warnings: Read the disclaimer on my LJ

171. Muscle

They circle each other, snarling. Big cats on the prowl, caged by bureaucracy. Turf war: two top trackers called in on the same scene. Work together, the brass snaps, ending the feud, or at least the public face of it. Far from being cooperative it becomes a competition - who's the best.

Ian's dark eyes take in Billy in one dismissive sweep, head to toe.

Billy's jaw muscle clenches as icy blue eyes glare back in challenge.

There is no actual bet made, but it's understood if there is a victor there must be spoils.

May the best alpha win.

018. Tense

Fugitive Recovery's finest finds him first. Only the guy grabs a hostage before Billy can get close enough to cuff him. The FBI surrounds as Billy tries to talk him down. A parking structure's not ideal for negotiations or for snipers - too much concrete, not enough cover.

Then Billy spies Ian hiding in the sliver of space between levels.

Ian asks with his eyes for Billy to shift the perp into a position he can aim at.

Billy advances on the perp to get him to back away, escalating an already tense situation.

A single shot ends it all.

196. Strength

A celebratory drink turns into several, a hotel room, a wrestling match. Billy is strong, but Ian is stronger. It's a strength that's intoxicating. It's been a long time since he met someone able to wrest control from him, but he puts up a good fight anyway. No alpha ever goes down quietly.

Billy feels his back hit the wall and knows the obligatory battle is over.

Ian presses his body into him, a wolfish grin emerging at his victory.

There is no surrender, just an acknowledgement of who won the right to go first.

The predator claims his prey.

036. Relinquish

He might be naked and handcuffed, but Billy's still smirking at Ian, taunting him with his resistance. He's withstood the pleasure torture of teasing tongues and not caved, so he still feels a measure of pride. Only Ian's not frustrated, he's just got a sly smile on his face like he knows something Billy doesn't.

Billy gasps as Ian first slides inside and brushes that electric spot just so.

Then Ian starts bringing him to the edge and pulling him back without ever touching him.

Straining and craving the explosive release to come, Billy finally relinquishes control.

Ian doesn't disappoint.

Being a numbers geek I get a perverse little pleasure when there's a match between the Rewind prompt numbers from the previous months' Rewind prompt numbers when I fill out my headers (which I do by taking a copy of the previous month's Rewind post) of at least one digit. Now, I don't ever plan this, even though I am the one who does most of the work on the Rewind prompt sets for Mel and I to pick from. (The final decision is always mutual so I can't be assured of it in advance.) But, when it happens - like this time - I get inordinately pleased that I only need to change 2 out of 3 of the digits for each prompt.

I know, I'm eccentric, and the months when 3 out of 4 prompts have digits in common but the 4th one doesn't it gets me annoyed. But part of optimism is finding small delights in life and enjoying them. I'll take what smiles I can where I find them.

Brownie points to anyone who notices the fairly strict structure/formatting of this drabble series on first reading. ;-)

YAY brownie points for me!

Now every time I read your drabbles I look for a structure now, especially after your imaginary series. Hee!

This is very *GUH* structure or not. Yummy. I think you may have given me some inspiration for my nano in fact.

/gives you brownie points AND brownies/

That's very cool. I really enjoy structure as an added challenge in drabbles. It makes for a fresh challenge each time and it makes me glad when people can tell I went to that extra effort.

Yay for inspiring NaNo! /dances/ I can't wait to read your novel. /bounces/

I can't wait to read your novel.

Yeah, about that. /pokes novel with a stick/ It's kinda crappy. Um... don't know how much is actually fit for consumption.

Bah! Don't say that! You know NaNo is good for first drafts only! Never judge a first draft book by its cover. I'm sure there's plenty of yummy goodness in there just waiting for a little polish when November is done. You'll have kinder eyes then and you know we readers ♥ all your delicious slash.

LOL the sex might be the only thing worth salvaging to the second draft. ;)

I don't know, the premise sounded awful cool to me so I find it hard to believe there's not all sorts of ooh! in it already. :-)

Thank you! It's a tough pairing to write, two alphas, but it's one I haven't attempted often enough despite the obvious appeal of it.

Not really my pairing, but I loved this. Scorchingly hot and deliciously IC. I especially adore your last line- yum!

Nooooooo!!! It's not true!! Go away Ian. Billy belongs to Charlie *nods*

Hee, nipped in for a little peek, despite the pairing not doing anything for me at all, and as always my dear, very nicely written.
