Numb3rs Fic: A Father and Son Tradition
Written for numb3rs100 Challenge #242 – Train

Title: A Father and Son Tradition
Series/Universe: A Father and Son Tradition
Pairing/Characters: David/Colby, OC
Rating: G
Word Count: 300
Spoilers: Judgment Call
Summary: Colby and his four year old son play with a train set on Christmas morning
Notes/Warnings: Read the disclaimer on my LJ

"Come on, let's make the train go around the track!"

Colby lay on his stomach on the carpet beside the wooden train set he'd built for Tyler. He knew he could buy a fancier motorized train set, but his son's Christmas morning awe had made it all worthwhile. He'd kept the one his father made him long after the paint faded away and he hoped his son would keep this one long enough to grow nostalgic for his fourth Christmas.

"Choo choo!" Tyler called out. As he pushed the train over the bridge he made the train fall over onto its side. "Oh no! The train crashed! We need Agent Daddy to fix it!"

Colby smiled indulgently as he righted the train. "Agent Daddy to the rescue!"

"Yay!" Tyler started pushing it again, making little chugging noises as he circled the track. Colby shifted to lean back against David's legs as he sat on the couch behind him.

David put aside the camcorder he'd been filming them with and slid his hands onto Colby's shoulders.

"He looks more like you every year."

Colby leaned back contentedly into David's hands. "He does, doesn't he?" He tipped his head back to grace David with a teasing grin. "Of course when you have a daughter, I'm going to hope she doesn't look like you."

"One kid's a handful enough," David scoffed.

Tyler pulled the train off the tracks and ran it across the couch.

"Special delivery for David!"

Tyler presented the candy cane in the train to David, kissing his cheek with a loud smack.

"Thank you, Ty," David said, pulling him into a hug. Colby watched David gaze fondly at the little boy as he went back to playing. "Okay, so maybe a daughter would be a nice addition to the family."

There are some old traditions worth continuing and there are good reasons for families to make new traditions.

Happy holidays to all the wonderfully diverse blended/non-traditional families out there.

Very special thanks to beta melissima for her assistance with this fic.

I snagged this icon for mustangcandi but thought it very appropriate for today's drabble. :) Girl, girl, girl. girl, girl, girl! The ending is such perfection, there is nothing but love for this little christmas glimpse. GUH. I mean to first make it a kidfic and then make it Colby on the floor playing trains with his kid under the tree and then make it David/Colby, and then make them muse about having a daughter!!! Gah! I think I just felt one of my ovaries implode from wanting this drabble so hard. I am with rubynye on this one, I am oozing out of my chair with love as we speak. A perfect xmas time drabble. I heart it so. ♥ ♥ ♥
