David rapped on the Assistant Director's door as Colby fidgeted nervously beside him.

"Come in!"

David opened the door to find Don in a flurry of activity, pulling files, typing on his computer, jotting down notes.

"Um, we were hoping you might have a minute," David began.

Don didn't even look up. "That's about all I have so talk fast."

David and Colby exchanged distressed looks, but David forged on.

"I just, I mean we just wanted to let you know…" he floundered. "You know how we used to joke about Colby and I being married to the job?" He looked to Colby for support.

"David proposed," Colby blurted out. "We're getting married."

"That's great guys," Don said off-hand, still engaged with his tasks. "Be sure to see Human Resources. They'll have a bunch of paperwork for you to fill out."

David and Colby blinked at him and at each other.

"Um. Okay."

They turned to leave and Don burst out laughing.

"You guys! Oh, man! You should have seen your faces!" He pulled them each into a big bear hug in turn. "Congratulations!"

"Thanks," Colby mumbled, looking sheepish.

"About damn time," Don told them, clapping David on the shoulder. "We were beginning to wonder if you were going to step up and make an honest man of Colby."

"You all knew?" David gaped.

Don huffed out a laugh. "This is the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Kind of the worst place to try to hide, surrounded by trained observers." He headed back behind his desk, pulling out a piece of paper and referring to it. "Damn, Charlie won the pool! I should have known his math would work."

"You had a pool?" Colby asked, aghast. "You were betting on us?"

David smiled in understanding. "No, they were betting for us."

My deadline for that is the tenth. No way I'm getting the relationship that far by then.
