Numb3rs Fic: Paid In Full
Written for numb3rs100 Challenge #284 – Debt

Title: Paid In Full
Pairing/Characters: Ian/Colby
Rating: PG13
Word Count: 300
Spoilers: Sniper Zero, Judgment Call, The Mole, The Janus List, Trust Metric
Summary: Ian accompanies Colby to the graveyard on a solemn visit
Notes/Warnings: Read the disclaimer on my LJ

An early fall breeze blew errant leaves across the manicured lawn of the graveyard. Ian had come there knowing that while Dwayne didn't deserve him paying any respects, Colby would need him. He stood a short distance away, watching Colby's features twist in anguish as he faced the grave of his former friend.

Ian had buried brothers in arms, but none that had betrayed him. He'd buried soldiers and agents who had played a role in keeping him alive, though none so directly as Dwayne pulling Colby out of that burning Humvee. If he'd only left it at that. Dwayne wouldn't have had to give his life to save Colby's a second time if he hadn't been a traitor in the first place.

The pain was outlined in the bent frame of Colby's broad back, grief ebbing his strength until he appeared just a shell of his normal self. Finally, Ian could bear it no longer. He stepped forward, laying a reassuring hand on Colby's shoulder, hoping his presence would offer some small comfort.

"Why did he have to save my life?" Colby bemoaned, not even looking up from the headstone. "After he saved me he told me he owned me. So where does that leave me now that he's saved me twice?"

"Hey!" Ian took him by the shoulders and forced Colby to turn and face him. "You know as well as I do that the whole reason Lancer almost killed you was because of Dwayne's treason! And as for the first time he saved you?" He shifted his hands to cup his lover's face, using his thumbs to brush away the tear trails there. "In return you gave up three years of your life to be a spy because of him. So that debt? Is paid in full."

Very well done; very well, indeed.

That whole thing was so twisted and thank goodness for Ian putting that debt to rest!!
Emma DeMaraisemmademarais on October 11th, 2010 11:44 pm (UTC)
Thank you!

Colby would so be shouldering all that guilt; it would take someone as strong as Ian to disavow him of all that nonsense about owning and owing.

Poor Colby... *cuddles*

We need to see more Ian/Colby on the web! ^^
Emma DeMaraisemmademarais on October 11th, 2010 11:45 pm (UTC)
Yes! More Ian/Colby is of the good! I'm glad to see you're one of us who likes the pairing!
lillyglillyg on October 11th, 2010 11:47 pm (UTC)
Yeah :p Anyway, I like Colby with Don, Charlie or Ian ^^ But we haven't read Ian/Colby that much. And I rarely read fics with Ian anyway, because he's mainly a psycho and/or into rape or BDSM. It's kind of getting old...
Emma DeMaraisemmademarais on October 11th, 2010 11:55 pm (UTC)
That's too bad. The Ian I read tends to be none of those things (save the Silk Pillow universe), but I admit I don't read often. swingandswirl has some wonderfully supportive Ian with Colby and my Wilderness Bound, Bravo and Air are all really good Ians with Colby where he's not scary at all.

I've tried my hand at Don/Colby and Charlie/Colby, but I don't find them easy to write. Ian/Colby just seems to work best for me, though Ian/Charlie is easier and Ian/Don is hotter.

Don't worry, I've found some good ones with them ;-) like swingandswirl ones ^^

I've been trying to find your fics, I probably have read them, but I can't find a masterlist so I'm totally lost... :s Maybe you have a link, pwease?
Emma DeMaraisemmademarais on October 12th, 2010 04:54 am (UTC)
I have *way* too many fic for a single masterlist. I publish over 100 in the Numb3rs fandom alone each year!

I do have them organized however. On the last day of every calendar month there's a review post listing everything I published that month. On the first day of every year there's a masterlist of everything I published in the past year. Each one links to past years too so if you go to 1/1/2010 that will give you the vast majority of my fic by fandom and year.

I also organize my fic by tags and by memories. Tags are normally used for both fandoms and for comms I publish at. Memories organizes fic by fandom, genre (gen, het, slash), rating (PG13 and below, R and up) and pairing. (Though I do have a lot of fic listed under Multiple Pairings and not under the specific ones.)

I'm a little behind on my memories and tags seem to only go back so far, but the review tag for the monthlies and the annual review always contain every single fic published.

So not sure how you want to find things, but I'll try to get off my duff and update my memories. I tend to only do it monthly, but I think I'm behind for the last few months. Other than that all of my past fic is logged in memories, which I think is the easiest way to find it.

So as far as links go...

If there's something in particular you want to find quickly try Google of all things. My site appears to be pretty well indexed there so if you know a title or part of one it might get you there fast. Otherwise just ask me. :-)

Bon courage!

Amazing how the Trust Metric/Dwayne story line keeps generating such wonderful fic. *happy sigh* Another wonderful job. I so ♥ Ian hard core right now.

As far as storylines go, nothing else on N3 was quite so melodramatic, so we can't help but keep going back to it. Even Charlie losing his clearance was handled much more subtly over time.

I'm glad you liked this. This is one of the versions of Ian I really enjoy - with all the strength yet with enough human emotion to reach out to someone else and be there for them without going all Joe Sensitive. :-)

/makes happy seal noises/

OMG, Emma! This is AWESOME! I love Ian's voice here, and yay for him talking some sense into Colby's fool head! /considers petting, thinks better of it, and gives him a bran muffin instead/ And w00t for the understated but still awesome Ian/Colby. /waves tiny pairing flag/

Thank you so much for this wonderful fic, hon- you rock like a rocking thing! ♥

Happy seal noises FTW!

I was so happy to write this with you in mind. I'm ever so glad that someone else who waves the tiny pairing flag with me is herself such a good Ian/Colby author. As much as I adore your Andy, I adore you writing Ian with Colby as well. You always give us two strong men being amazing together, so this was just a little show of appreciation for that. ♥
