Numb3rs Fic: Untouched
Written for numb3rs100 Challenge #287 – Save

Title: Untouched
Pairing/Characters: Unstated
Rating: PG13
Word Count: 100
Spoilers: None
Summary: He's haunted by all the ones he couldn't save
Notes/Warnings: Read the disclaimer on my LJ

Ice melts in a glass of whiskey sitting on a table, untouched.

The room is dark; no one turned the lights on when the sun went down.

The white noise of Saturday night traffic leaks through the windows, proof the world keeps on spinning, at least for the six billion plus souls who didn't die today.

They're going out to dinner, to the movies, living their lives blissfully unaware.

One FBI agent sits alone, mentally adding two to the list of people he couldn't save.

They are his ghosts.

Today twin daughters he didn't bring home alive joined the haunt.

I confess I prefer Ian in this role, but Don or even Colby would work as well. If it wasn't for the phrase 'FBI agent' I'd enjoy having Charlie thinking those thoughts for a fresh perspective.

Very special thanks to beta melissima for her assistance with this fic.

As I read it, I was thinking Ian too. I know, my brain usually goes to Colby but... it seemed more Ian to me in my mind and was absolutely beautiful. Loved the white noise signaling the world kept going on.

Two thumbs up.

This is chilling, psychological and wonderful.

Oookkk... I posted a comment to this and it never showed...

Uh... hhmm...

Nicely done, Emma. The last part of the last line, '... joined the haunt' brought to mind images of 'The Wild Ride' from Kristen Britain's 'The Green Rider' series.
