"Daddy, Daddy!"

Colby was up to his elbows in suds, washing the pots from last night's big Sunday dinner when Sean ran into the kitchen with Delia close behind, setting down her book bag and the keys to the family's only non-government issue SUV.

"Hey, little man!"

Ian had just finished greeting Colby, having gotten off work early as well - a rare day both their bosses let them go in the afternoon - and was faced with an armful of kindergartner brandishing a painting in one hand.

Colby reached for a towel to dry his hands as he watched the once scary sniper lovingly embrace his young son. In the time since he'd moved in with Ian and his sister watching them raise Ian's son had been a joy. Being part of the family? Even better.

"I made a picture!" Sean waved his painting around. It was most definitely done by a kid, with messy forms and bright tempura colors. "They told us to paint our family!"

Colby stood behind Ian as he unfurled it, still crouched down on Sean's level. It had four misshapen people on it: three adults and one child.

"This is great," Ian enthused, ever the supportive father.

"That's you," Sean explained, tapping the tallest figure. "Daddy Ian. And there's Mommy Delia and Daddy Colby and me and our dog!"

Colby felt choked up, but tried hard not to show the emotion he was feeling.

"I tried to tell him we don't have a dog," offered Delia.

Ian took the painting and pinned it to the corkboard wall he'd installed in the kitchen.

"Then I say..." He put his arm around Sean, tugging him in close, tugging at Colby's heartstrings as well. "That it's about time we got a dog and made our family complete."

I confess this *is* how I planned on continuing the Air universe, but with this being a scene in a much longer fic. Ah, well. It's not like I can't come back and write more in this universe during this same era.

BTW, has anyone *not* figured out yet that I like dogs? Hehehe

THAT IS SO ADORABLE. Without edging the slightest into mawkish or overdone! Just warm and perfect. *cheers*
