Numb3rs Fic: Limits
Posted to numb3rs_slash

Title: Limits
Pairing/Characters: Charlie/Ian
Rating: PG13
Spoilers: Sniper Zero
Summary: They've never needed safewords, but Ian's never felt like this before
Notes/Warnings: Read the disclaimer on my LJ

There's a rhythm to it, a headspace Ian slips into when he's working on Charlie. Work - that's not the right word, though Charlie likes to say he feels worked over afterwards, chuckling as he rubs the red marks the flogger leaves behind as if rubbing in their healing effects. It's good for him, a respite from the demands from his mind - a blissful emptiness that he considers peaceful even as Ian's whipping his pale skin. It's good for Ian too. He's so tightly controlled during the day, so still behind his rifle, the ability to let his body move freely without concern releases more than just tension in him.

The table is set in the middle of the room so Ian can circle him and he does, always clockwise, sometimes growing dizzy with the speed of the cycles - his head growing light with a sort of giddiness he'd never allow any other time. Whatever's inside comes out and when it's done he's drawn, empty, exhausted just as Charlie is energized.

Ian needs this tonight, though he'd never tell Charlie so. There is no straw that broke the camel's back, no missed shot, no child's eyes glaring up at him, dead. He's just filled to the brim with some sort of demon he needs purged and it just... won't... go...

There's a rhythm to this, but tonight the rhythm is off, all wrong. Ian feels like he's moving counterclockwise, against the flow, against what they've come here for. But he can't stop moving. His feet move of their own accord, the flogger comes down at irregular intervals, forming a new beat Ian's never felt before. Hard, fast, whip, lash... The room slips away and Ian slips into a groove, falling fast into a sort of delirium that spins his head even as dizziness blurs his vision. Strike, step, swear, shout... He doesn't even realize how loud he is or what he's saying. It's as if he's hearing a voice from another room, not his own.

Something primal is unleashed within and words fall away as a pure animal ferocity rises up in him. Rip, tear, devour...

Ian halts, hand raised and poised for the next blow, blinking. Charlie has spit out the leather band he uses to bite down on and is staring at him, wide-eyed and panting.

They don't have a safeword. They've never needed one.

Ian stares at the flogger in his hand and looks at Charlie, really looks at him, and swears under his breath in shock.

He's drawn blood.

He needs to untie Charlie, he needs to let him up, tend to his wounds. But instead Ian's legs give out on him and he sinks to the floor, sitting there staring at where Charlie lays bound to the table.

He crossed a line. There are limits, agreements in place.

He forgot all about them.

He made Charlie a thing - existing purely for his own release.

Ian buries his head in his hands, quaking in fear at what he's become: someone he doesn't know.

Someone he can't trust.

Someone he can never forgive.

This was written for devon99's prompt at t_vo0810's Numb3rs comment fic comm n3rs_commentfic. I'm pasting it here verbatim below.

Charlie/Ian, Limits

Ian is always in control, but with Charlie tied up and splayed beneath him, that control soon wavers as he pushes his lover beyond his limits. Can Charlie forgive him, and more importantly can Ian forgive himself?

I actually wrote this not long after the prompt went up in May (intending it to also be a birthday gift - not like I'm ever on time with those!), but I avoided it afterwards knowing it couldn't stand alone - that it had to be part of as series. So here it is, end of year, and I'm publishing what I've got and turning it over to the readers. Do you really want more of this? Or would you rather I start a new long Charlie/Ian series since I seem to be the only Charlie/Ian author without a nice long series for that pairing to my name (unless you count the 20 drabble Obshina Series, which is only partially C/I and the rest gen case fic).

Yes, there's an option to say both, but consider this: I'm writing less fic every year. Be careful what you ask for since my fic time, now that I'm back in school full time - is finite.

Come to think of it, I'll probably invite people to LMK what series they'd like to see more of when I'm doing my year end statistics/wrap up type posts. I'm always interested to see which pairings and which series people really want more of as it doesn't always match with my assumptions.

That sound you heard coming across the Pacific was me squeeing with delight, and not because you wrote Charlie/Ian, though that's always great. This was exceptional. I could feel Ian just spinning apart. You MUST write more. What bribe do you want?

I really like the opening description of how topping feels, the ending breaks my heart, and it's all wonderfully atmosopheric and deep into his consciousness. *cheers*

Enjoyed reading. Loved Ian's reaction at the end.

Stupid question: didn't you write a series of stories that were Don/Charlie, and Don was like the leader of a mafia group?
Emma DeMaraisemmademarais on December 23rd, 2010 03:40 am (UTC)
Thank you!

And not a stupid question! Yes, I have a series where Don and Charlie run a criminal organization. The universe is called Viceworld and there are two novels published so far (Vice and Virtue) and a spin off series called Sin, which is the first novella in a trilogy after Megan takes over the organization.

You can find the Series Posts for Vice, Virtue and Sin on any of my recent Journal Review posts.

Here's a link to the latest one.

There are prequel novels in progress as well. It's basically a ten book series in which Vice is Book 9 and Virtue is Book 10. Books 1 and 2 (Homicide and Larceny) are partially written and should come out next year as well as the next two parts in the Sin trilogy.

They're a mix of cest, het and slash and I offer people versions that are either cest sex free or completely graphic sex free, though overall the series is gen in terms of basic plot. There are just tons of pairings throughout because like in real life, people tend to hook up. ;-)

I hope you'll give Viceworld a chance. It may seem like an odd AU, but they're still the Don and Charlie we know and love, just shaped into different roles by what happened to them when they were young.

Thanks for asking!

Viceworld is why I started reading I friended you so I wouldn't lose he link to the fic. I just forgot what the name of the fic was when I finally found time to read it. :)
