Numb3rs Fic: Star of David
Written for numb3rs100 Challenge #297 – Star

Title: Star of David
Pairing/Characters: Don/Unstated
Rating: PG13
Word Count: 100
Spoilers: Provenance, Scan Man
Summary: "The boy he wore a medal that was shining from his skin..."
Notes/Warnings: Read the disclaimer on my LJ

Rushed hands untucked shirttails from pants, pushed Don down onto the bed, unbuttoned his shirt...

Then stilled.

Fingertips ghosted over the gold Star of David pendant that hung around his neck.

"Does it bother you?"

"No," the answer came.

The fingertips hesitated there before continuing lower to disappear into thick chest hair, but the gaze at the golden emblem stayed put.

"I could take it off if it bothers you."

A ducking down of eyes to make contact. A glance away. A return to the disrobing of before, only less hurried, less charged.

"Leave it. It's who you are now."

Confession
I confess this was one of the easiest beta sessions ever. I only had to change one word!

For the curious cats in you, before and after:
"No. Leave it. It's who you are."
vs
"Leave it. It's who you are now."

If you look at it in terms of simply letters, I just added a W! Hee!

BTW, in terms of who I envisioned? I pictured (in this order): Robin, then Billy, then Charlie. If it had been Charlie he might have added at the end, "It's just not who I am." Though really, Robin or Billy could have said that too and actually been more correct in the statement. /grins/

Fic inspiration and summary quote, "The boy he wore a medal that was shining from his skin...", from the Simple Minds song Ghost Dancing. (Having recently seen Inception, the beginning of the song reminds me of dream scenes from that movie.)

Very special thanks to beta melissima for her assistance with this fic.

Thanks,

Emma DeMarais

Oddly, in my mind I pictured high school Don and a team mate. Not sure why. Still it really works.

/ponders/ Yeah, it does. Or college or minor league era. I rather like that it's that flexible - that people can insert whoever they think works. I figured if I couldn't pick one person this fit perfectly why not leave it open to interpretation?

I love the ambiguity. (I was imagining a post-series Visit From Billy, myself...)

Oh, yeah. That totally made my list. /smiles/

Thank you. Care to do on record as to who you saw with Don? All this discussion is making me curious.

Interesting! I saw Robin first, but then when I was first coming up with this idea I kind of thought to have Robin give Don the necklace as a gift as a show of acceptance. The original bunny was for Alan to give it to Don as having been owned by an older deceased relation.

Thanks for sharing!

That's a bunny I wouldn't mind seeing.

Because of the title Star of David I ended up reading it as Don/David but leaving it open lets everyone put their vision on it.

Now that's a rare pairing! But yeah, not that David. That's just what it's called.

Thanks for sharing how you saw it! It's really interesting to me for people to share their vision on this one.
