Numb3rs Fic: Santa Ana Winds
Written for numb3rs100 Challenge #308 – East

Title: Santa Ana Winds
Pairing/Characters: Don
Rating: PG13
Word Count: 100
Spoilers: None
Summary: SoCal is melting in the heat and Don's stuck in his car like everyone else
Notes/Warnings: Read the disclaimer on my LJ

Traffic snarls, knotting in the sticky heat as sweaty motorists honk horns on unmoving interchanges.

A hundred and ten degrees at sunset; rush hour's not rushing anywhere.

Sputtering steaming radiators line the emergency lanes as red lights rule, too many taillights to count.

Santa Ana winds blow hot from the east, choking the city in regurgitated smog.

It feels wrong, it is wrong.

Like all the other Californians stuck in metal boxes, Don yearns for the coast, praying for a little whisper of breath from the great Pacific to put an end to their misery with one sweet ocean breeze.

Confession
Yes, Santa Ana Winds do exist. They are so not fun. As a native, I can say with all authority, ick. Do not want.

Thanks,

Poor Don. What a nasty time and place to be stuck.

I know. You can just picture him all but parked on the 10, right?

Oh god yes. And watching the gas needle slowly drop and not wanting to turn on the air con because of it.
Emma DeMaraisemmademarais on March 28th, 2011 02:38 am (UTC)
Ha! I wasn't worried about the gas when turning on the A/C, I was worried about overheating the radiator!

I ran out of gas while stuck in a 4 hour backup on the 101 once. It's a constant paranoia now.

Ugh! That sucks. Once I had any sort of money I tried never to let my tank go below a quarter because so many of my trips were long ones.

Would you believe I've been there and done that in Toledo on the way to court to get married?

I should have known then...

Yeah, bad traffic and uncomfortable weather is fairly universal. ;-)

Brava!
Hehehe oh poor Don. You are so mean to him! /sends Billy with a cooler of ice and cold beers/

It's like 72 degrees in here and you made me want ice water.
