Numb3rs Fic: A Rough Night
Written for numb3rs100 Challenge #317 – Rough

Title: A Rough Night
Series/Universe: A Firm Hand
Pairing/Characters: Don/Ian
Rating: PG13
Word Count: 300
Spoilers: Sniper Zero
Summary: Don has a rough night but Ian sees him through it
Notes/Warnings: Read the disclaimer on my LJ

The first blow Don sees coming, lets it come, welcomes it even.

And then they're on the floor, wrestling, and there's nothing left but primal brain and body fighting off a better predator.

The martyr in Don craves the punishment, needs the absolution it brings.

The man in him fights desperately to keep from becoming pinned, helpless.

In this battle all of Don's ego is stripped away. There is no agent, no supervisor, no brother, no son. There's just a man who took a life; a man who fights for his own.

Ian holds nothing back. His rough handling will mean purpling bruises and red scrapes later, but for now Don doesn't care. He needs this.

Ian's greater stamina wears him down and Don begins to fail to protect himself, flailing harder as his strength ebbs.

Ian pins him finally - hands binding Don's wrists so he's fully trapped.

That's when Don breaks.

With a howl, the last of the fight leaves him and he surrenders.

That's when Ian gives.

He rolls Don up in a few of the quilts, cocooning him, then wraps himself protectively around Don's shaking body.

Silent sobs wrack his frame, but Ian sees him through.

Rushed out today rather than waiting because cat_13145 said national morale was at stake. ;-) (I'm not sure which nation, but far be it from me to deny such a request.)

It looks like the series is going to be 100-200-300-200-100. Huh. New one on me, but valid I guess. /shrugs/

Oh Don. /pets him/

He makes things so hard for himself! It's kind of pathetic, but since our culture forbids men, especially alpha men, to show emotion I can't blame him completely.

I'm on the edge of my seat for this series too, in case you were wondering about that. ♥

I do feel bad for Don that he needs to go through all of this to fully feel and recover from such a traumatic event, but on the other hand, he is willing to go through it and that's saying something. He doesn't just bottle it up anymore and hope it will stay down and ignored. This is kind of a healthier way of dealing with it, even if it requires Ian to struggle with him until he's weak enough to let him in.

Okay, I didn't see this coming. I knew Don was going to have to break but I wasn't sure how. Nice work. And I like the numbering scheme for what that's worth.

I wanted something more inventive, but mostly I needed him rolled up and shaking at the end of it because that's how he needed to break - at least how I saw it in my head.

See, I don't mind playing with the numbers on your drabble comm, but I've been really rigid at N100. I suppose it's healthy for me to relax a bit.

I've no idea which nation's morale was at stake, but mine definately was and remains. More soon?
