White Collar Fic: Someone to Watch Over Him
Written for whitecollar100 Challenge #051 – Watch

Title: Someone to Watch Over Him
Pairing/Characters: Neal, Peter, Mozzie, June, Alex, Elizabeth
Rating: PG13
Word Count: 300
Spoilers: Season 1
Summary: Neal has a whole host of guardian angels watching over him
Notes/Warnings: Read the disclaimer on my LJ

It's his job, or so Peter tells himself. He's responsible for Neal being out of prison and while that makes him culpable for any illicit activity Neal might do, it also makes him at fault should Neal get hurt in his employ. Regardless, there are worse jobs than keeping an eye on Neal.

He doesn't make the best choices; he doesn't have the experience Mozzie has. Ever since he took Neal under his wing it's been his role as a mentor to watch out for him, help rescue him from his rookie mistakes. But Mozzie doesn't mind, it's been a hell of a ride.

It's not the same as it was in Byron's day. The cops looked the other way for a little cash on the side. Now criminals all pack automatic weapons. June worries like a mother hen, but tries not to let Neal know. She does tap into her old contacts though when she doesn't like the look of one of his visitors. Someone has to take care of that dear boy.

Whenever she hears even a whisper about Keller she drops a dime and reports it immediately. It's always anonymous - since when would Alex Hunter officially tip off the Feds - but she has to do it. Neal's watched over her in the past and this is the least she can do for him in return to help keep him safe.

She wishes she could do more than feed him a good meal, tuck his scarf tight around his neck and call him a cab home so he doesn't have to wait in the cold to flag one down. But Elizabeth isn't an agent, just an agent's wife, so while she shouldn't be worrying about Neal, it seems like everyone else around her is doing it.

That is so sweet and absolutely perfect. And excellent prompt use. I can't believe I didn't think of someone using that title myself. As always, great work and than you for adding your talent to the com.

So absolutely perfect.

Lovely and understated. Each sentence a perfect bite.

We should all be as lucky as Neal is in his friends.
