A nice quiet holiday... Peter parked his car and headed to the front door of his townhouse already relaxing in anticipation of a week off from work. No in-laws this year, just him and his wife enjoying some quality time as a couple.

The front steps were shoveled free of snow and Peter walked up them, grateful for not having to do that chore and hoping Elizabeth had paid a neighbor kid to do it rather than doing it herself.

Opening the door, he was ready to call out her name, but what he saw left him speechless.

Neal was having a popcorn fight with Alex as Satchmo gratefully gobbled up each errant missile. June was supervising Diana who was busy hanging lights on a huge Christmas tree that nearly grazed the ceiling. Clinton walked in with a tray of hot cider and saw him, halting and making everyone else look around.

"What are all you people doing here and where is my wife?" Peter stammered, still in shock.

Elizabeth appeared from behind Clinton, carrying a platter of cookies.

"Hi, hon! I didn't expect you home so soon!"

Before he could get a word out the back door opened and Mozzie entered, shaking snow off his coat.

"Brr! Okay, now the back porch has been shoveled too. Hand over that cider, Jones, and no one gets hurt." He looked up, apparently puzzled by the silence in the room, and spotted Peter. "Ah! Merry Christmas, Suit."

"Yes, Merry Christmas, hon," Elizabeth echoed, then cocked her head at him, looking worried. "Is everything all right?"

It wasn't anything he expected, but it made perfect sense.

"It's all good," he told her, pulling her in close. "It's a Burke Christmas."

Neal raised his cider glass to the two of them.

"The best kind."

This is really cute. Everyone just showing up at Peter's house. Really sweet.

Though I did sort of feel sorry for Peter, if he was looking forward to a relaxing, stress free Christmas.

HEHE! You must have been to one of my mother's thanksgivings. 19 people this year only three were family. All the rest were strays.
