"What the hell is this?

Don stared into the styrofoam container Billy had handed him with what he said was dinner in it. By now Don was used to stakeout food being burgers, pizza and sandwiches, but he didn't recognize anything.

"Southern food!" Billy exclaimed, already digging in. "We're lucky to have a decent place so far north."

"Okay, but what is this stuff, really? I mean I see stuff that's fried and there's some sort of green vegetable..."

Billy gestured with his fork. "Those are collard greens. There are catfish nuggets and the balls are hush puppies. Underneath is a mess of cheesy grits."

"And it's all edible?"

Billy laughed.

"Boy, are you sheltered!"

"What the hell is this?"

Don snickered as Billy opened up his styrofoam container.

"It's Jewish food. I got us latkes, kugel and knishes." He raised his eyebrow as Billy stared at his food. "What's the matter? Too sheltered?"

"Nope," Billy told him, grinning. "Just wondering where my fork is!"

Don found a fork in the bag and handed it over.

"Next time, how about gefilte fish?" he teased.

Billy choked on his latke.

"Don't make me break out the pickled pigs feet."

"Truce?"

"Truce!"

Confession
I confess to having a craving for kugel. Yum.

Very special thanks to melissima and t_vo0810 for their assistance with my southern food menu. ;-)

Thanks,

Good thing they called truce. Things could have gotten really weird. That said I'm craving latkes.
