She bounces the baby on her knee, ignoring the pangs of arthritis in that old rickety joint. Don's been after her to get it replaced with an artificial one. He loves his robotic knees and brags about still being able to play doubles tennis at age seventy-five.

Robin prefers quieter pastimes. She enjoys spending afternoons in the Holo room with holographic avatars of her far flung family and friends virtually visiting. It's not as fulfilling as holding little Ally in her arms, but if she can watch her first steps from three thousand miles away, it's worth it.

For now, for the holidays, the family is back at the ancient Eppes clan Craftsman. Desiree's almost five now and as the oldest grandchild she claims first shot at Grandma Robin's lap as her privilege, one Robin's daughter Elise once claimed as oldest grandchild to Alan.

She thinks back, remembering how much joy Don and Charlie's children brought to Alan before he passed. She gets it now, the love of a grandparent, and is glad she was able to gift him with that while he was still with them.

"Where's my favorite baby?" Don swoops in and lifts up Ally, tossing her into the air to make her giggle.

"Dad!" Mark scolds his father with a good-natured grin. "You throw her like that you're responsible for any spit-up that results."

"Nah, she's a good girl, aren't you?" He holds her up in front of him, giving her a little shimmy shake to make her laugh again.

"Another strong as an ox Eppes child," Amita chimes in, nudging Charlie beside her.

From Alan to Don to Mark and Ally, to Elise and Desiree... From Alan to Charlie to Raj and Mia, to Jaya and Shayne...

A family line, unbroken in time and love.

Awwwww. I went a little sniffly there and I don't like Amita or Robin.

A wonderful glimpse of the future. A way to remember the past as well.
