319. Mountain

Ian threw open the simple cotton drapes facing the mountains in Charlie's forest retreat.

"Great view!"

"I hardly ever get to enjoy it," Charlie admitted, unpacking his satchel on the living room coffee table. "I can rarely find the time to come up here and when I do I'm usually head down over the math."

"Still, thanks for letting me use it as home base for hiking."

Charlie waved a hand dismissively. "Hey, at least one of us will get to enjoy it. I've got consulting work due on Tuesday so my long weekend is a date with my equations."

192. Cabin

"There's the cabin! Finally!"

Ian looked back over his shoulder, chuckling at Charlie.

"What? Did I wear you out?"

"In a word? Yes!" When Ian slowed Charlie caught up to him. "I mean, I normally do that same hiking trail, but not that fast!"

"So next time, tell me to slow down."

"What, and let you show me up?" Charlie flashed him a wide grin. "Nah, I like a challenge. Besides, tonight's your turn for cooking dinner. What are you making?"

Ian only managed a straight face until Charlie all but fell over laughing.

"Good one, man. Good one."

191. Fireplace

The fire crackled as Charlie poked it with a stick, looking pensive.

"If you don't want to talk about it..." Ian's voice trailed off. For a moment the only sound was the night wind whipping through the valley, brushing branches against the windows.

"I do..." Charlie's eyes finally pulled away from the flickering flames and alit on Ian's face. "It's just, what can I say? My brother almost died. I can't undo it, prevent it, or even forget it."

"If you want..." Ian slid down to the hearth in front of the fireplace. "I could help. If you'll let me."

238. Spark

"So you never married?" At Ian's look of astonishment, Charlie explained. "I see a man older than I am, alone, no ring..."

"Let's just say I never found anyone to marry and wouldn't want to have to move states if I did."

"Oh." Charlie paused. "Ian?"

Charlie moved to sit on the couch right beside Ian. "I wouldn't want to move states either."

That near the attraction between them became apparent. Ian buried his hand in Charlie's curls and pulled him in close.

A single kiss sparked the flame inside.

"I would though," Ian breathed. "For the right person."

You know it makes me so happy when you write Charlie/Ian. And in a cabin in the woods it just makes it perfect.

You are so brilliant at fitting so much story into so few words. I am breathless.
