Numb3rs/Criminal Minds Fic: The Human Touch
Written for numb3rs100 Challenge #366 – Contact

Title: The Human Touch
Series/Universe: Wall to Wall
Pairing/Characters: Billy/Spencer
Rating: PG13
Word Count: 300
Spoilers: Man Hunt (Numb3rs), Extreme Aggressor (Criminal Minds)
Summary: Billy's been out on the road too long and he needs real human contact
Notes/Warnings: Read the disclaimer on my LJ

Sometimes Billy loses track. Of days, of weeks, of Saturdays and Sundays.

He means to return calls, juggling time zones in his head until he gets distracted by a fresh tip and he's off again.

The road absorbs all, demands all that he has to give. More and more though, it's starting to offer less in return.

Tonight though, he gets to go home, at least that's what he should call his mostly abandoned looking apartment.

Before he turns his SUV towards the interstate trading south for north and west for east, he makes one phone call.

The voice on the other end of the line feels more like home than the place he pays to leave vacant most of the month.

He doesn't speed, but the anticipation of meeting up despite the late hour lends an uptick to his heart rate.

Off-ramp, right turn, left turn, park. Security gate, courtyard, wisteria vines, a staircase taken by twos.

The key in his lock almost doesn't seem familiar, but the smiling face that greets him, already there, is unmistakable.

Billy's been there when Spencer needed him, after bad cases, but now he's willing to admit he needs Spencer too.

The look on his face must be enough for Spencer to know it's his turn to drive. Shirts come off, hands reach out...

Spencer has multiple PhDs, knows a handful of languages including Latin and has an eidetic memory.

Best of all, he knows when to stay silent; it's his gift to Billy and a sign that they work because they don't need words.

Skin on skin, senses heightened, Billy's hunger for touch consumes him even as his fingertips seek, stroke, sigh.

This human contact feeds him, nourishes his soul and reminds him of what he needs to know.

He's not alone.

Title from the Rick Springfield song of the same name.

BTW I only put this in the Wall to Wall universe because I figure if I don't those people who like this pairing and that fic will put it in that canon anyway. ;-)

I like this - it's not a pairing I'd have thought of, but now you've written it,I can see how it works. So if the plot bunnies bite again, there's at least one person who'll read it :D

Hi again.

So AFTER I posted my comment, I read the original story, wondering how I'd missed it, because I love your stuff and have read huge amounts of it, even though I don't comment very often. And at practically the first word, I realised I had in fact started reading it, but hadn't got to the interesting bits - no idea why. By the time I got to the end, I had a big smile on my face. It just worked, so I'm back to say "more please".
