The love of his life: that's what he called her when they first started dating.

It all seemed so romantic: flowers, presents, wanting her all to himself.

Ever present, he watched over her as she went about her day.

He was her shadow, her self-professed white knight, there to protect her.

No one, he'd vowed, would ever harm her – not while he was around.

She was his and his alone.

Stabbing the co-worker who gave her a ride home one night when her car wouldn't start proved he'd gone over the edge.

The police couldn't prove it was him; the evidence was all circumstantial they claimed.

So she moved away.

He followed.

She changed her name.

He found her.

New job, new town... No matter where she went she sensed his eyes on her.

He was the prickle at the back of her neck at the coffee shop, the tension in the leash while walking her dog, the dark shape making her heart race in the faculty parking lot at work... She knew he was never far and the thought terrified her.

He ignored restraining orders and evaded the police, growing more amorous and adamant with each chilling re-appearance.

Then she met Megan Reeves, an FBI agent, at a self-defense class.

She listened. She understood. She said she would help.

When he threatened her with a double barreled shotgun, she prayed Agent Reeves would make it in time.

He swore he loved her, promising they'd be together forever.

Agent Reeves came out of nowhere and made good on her promise to stop him - with three bullets to the chest.

She stood over his body, watching as the life left it then walked away to start over one last time.

That fear though, that sense of vulnerability, never did go away.

Very scary. There is little worse than a stalker. Good for Megan shoeing up and doing what had to be done.

Very scary, and very poignantly written from your pen/keyboard. Excellent.
