"Thinking too much again?"

A hand on his bare skin should make Steve go on alert, but instead he leans into the warmth he knows is Nick's touch. It's been a long time, too long, yet this he remembers from before.

"No surprise there."

Nick's chuckle is deep and throaty and closer to him than he realizes so he opens his eyes to find Nick's barely a breath away, hovering over him with his hand sliding up from Steve's knee to his thigh and then shifting diagonally, seeking out the more sensitive inner thigh.

"I seem to remember having a good cure for that."

Nick's fingers slip beneath the edge of Steve's sea damp swim trunks. Something nags in the back of Steve's head though, something that says this isn't a good idea anymore. He shoos it away and focuses on more pleasant thoughts.

"I seem to remember the same. You always did have a talent for taking me out of my head."

"Mostly by taking you in my mouth," Nick teases, pausing to untie the laces on Steve's trunks. He tugs the trunks down, revealing paler skin, dark curls and sand speckling salty skin, fresh from a swim. "Hello, salty goodness."

Before Steve can form any sort of retort, Nick swallows him down. This is the pleasure he's denied himself for so long and Nick holds nothing back.

He floats on the rising tide of pleasure as the sunset gold paints their bodies in tawny fiery shades. Like a volcano, he rumbles, tenses under pressure and finally erupts just as the last rays of the day slip behind the real volcano, leaving him in a darkness that reveals the truth.

There is no Nick. Nick is gone, dead. And the sunset really is over.

Waah!

Wow what a great, painful moment. ouch ouch ouch. I love the colors in this:

That could be such a cliched metaphor in less-skilled hands, but you've made it fresh with the color-drenched language threaded around and through it. Gorgeous.
