Numb3rs Fic: No Exit
Written for numb3rs100 Challenge #418 - Exit

Title: No Exit
Pairing/Characters: Alan, Millie, OCs
Rating: PG13
Word Count: 100
Spoilers: Season 3
Summary: Alan volunteered for a panel discussion, not a nightmare
Notes/Warnings: Read the disclaimer on my LJ

The panel became a nightmare before it even began.

First Bob Brewster, his nemesis from book club, sat at Alan's table.

Next came an old rival from the city planning department, Eugenia Dinovio.

Finally, the last seat was taken by Millie. Alan hadn't seen her since their falling out.

"Hello, everyone! I'm Dr. Mildred Finch and apparently they've decided to make me chair of this panel!"

Millie forced a thin smile when she caught sight of Alan and he returned it with a wan one of his own.

"'L'enfer, c'est les autres,'" he quoted quietly under his breath. "No exit."

This fic was inspired by the play No Exit by Jean-Paul Sartre. The quote Alan speaks at the end is from the play. It basically translates to "Hell is other people."

And yes, I totally think even if Alan didn't know any French, he'd have read Sartre.

I agree. There is definitely some philosophy in Alan's past, and even if he does't actually speak french he's charming enough to have memorized a phrase or two in order to sound all suave.

Re: Yaaaaaaay
Which would have worked on every woman *but* Margaret, who likely just spouted off something far longer in near fluent French as a retort. (Some Simone de Beauvoir peut-etre?)

Excellent drabble, short and precise.

Poor Alan.

Great drabble. Even if I still ship the hell out of Alan/Millie. I think the tension in this could lead to a reconciliation. ^^ (LOL.)

Ouch. Alan is in for a long, long day.
