Numb3rs Fic: The Next Generation
Written for numb3rs100 Challenge #75 – Daughter, October Monthly Theme – Women, October Challenge Character – Megan

Title: The Next Generation
Pairing/Characters: Megan, Don
Rating: PG
Word Count: 200
Spoilers: Judgment Call
Summary: Megan hopes the baby she's carrying is a girl
Notes/Warnings: Read the disclaimer on my LJ

"So, have you decided what you want?"

Don sat on the edge of Megan's desk and cocked his head towards her midsection.

"Other than the obligatory healthy baby?" Megan replied. She ran a hand over her now softly rounded belly with a sense of reverence. "I always felt that sounded kind of trite when other expectant parents said it before, but it's really the most important thing."

Don rubbed her arm and gave it a little squeeze – his wordless way of showing his ever present support. He retreated to sit in his own cubicle, picking up a folder from his inbox.

Megan sat thoughtfully for a moment before answering.

"A girl."

"A girl?" Don looked up, putting the folder aside.

"A daughter," Megan mused. "I think I'd like a daughter."

"Why?" Don asked.

"Because the world needs more kick ass women and I figure it's up to women like me to raise the next generation to follow in our footsteps."

"The world needs more good guys too. Men who respect and love all those kick ass women and have the strength of character to marry them."

"Well then," Megan said, nudging Don lightly. "It's up to you to raise some."

Confession
Yes, I know it's Diane Farr who's pregnant, not Megan, but it was an easy leap to make to transfer the pregnancy to her character, especially since someone told me she's finally showing.

I do think the world needs more kick ass women and I do think it would be optimal for strong women to raise them, but I also see friends of mine who are strong women raising really amazing young men. I just happened to like the idea that Megan thinks Don's the kind of good guy there should be more of. /smiles/

The world really does need good guys and not just because the next generation of awesome women need husbands. The next generation deserves to be made up from children who were raised to be respectful, compassionate, tolerant and fair.

That's the kind of world I'd like my future children to grow up in and it starts with every parent.

No betas to thank on this fic, but it's dedicated to a certain woman and her daughter – both of whom rock and deserve good guys, preferably with red hair and yummy freckles. ;-)

Thanks,

Emma DeMarais

Re: Confession
You know, you had me all goopy over the drabble to begin with, and then with the dedication I lost it! Laughing, crying, and going guh at the same time sounds difficult, but you made it easy.

Thank you, so much, FOR so much. ♥

PS Rockstar says, "Sweet! Can I have Rupert for my birthday?"

Re: Confession
De rien, ma cherie...

Rockstar can have Rupert or Ron - whatever she wants - via email. I've never ficced HP and I don't publish RPF, but I'd be happy to write her a private fic as a present. :-)

I'm happy that you liked this: fic and confession. It's a small gesture, but a heartfelt one.

/hugs you both/

Yay!

/loves making an impact/

Thanks for the link. That was pretty fugly, but she's adorable glowing like that.

The world so needs more kick ass women, raising strong girls and decent boys.

I love this being Megan's idea about her baby.
Emma DeMarais: BlueEyeemmademarais on October 11th, 2006 09:18 am (UTC)
I'm glad you think so. I can't wait to see how they deal with Diane's pregnancy in canon.

Thanks,

Emma

This is wonderful. Megan would have to raise a kickass girl. Great story.
Emma DeMarais: BlueEyeemmademarais on October 11th, 2006 09:19 am (UTC)
I might have to break down and write some future fic someday where Megan's daughter is older, maybe tween or teen age. That would be fun...

Thanks,

Emma

Oh, I loved to see that! Especially with Megan's past and the fact that you know her daughter is going to be just as kickass as she is.
Emma DeMarais: BlueEyeemmademarais on October 30th, 2006 09:09 am (UTC)
Well, I'm hoping I'll get a nibble on this from the muse at some point. For now? Patience...

Not one of my virtues, but I shall try.
Emma DeMarais: BlueEyeemmademarais on October 31st, 2006 04:23 am (UTC)
Well, you do have a number of custom fic racked up. You could chose something like this.

You don't have to take your N100 Reward fic in a series. I just think people tend to like it and it saves them coming up with prompts/pairings for each fic.

Your call.

My muse goes where she wants normally, but I do work very hard to convince her to work on Reward fic. I got three more in for Dance today, so she does listen...

Wow! My muse never listens that well. Actually, commented about an idea for my reward fic, but I'm easy. I'd take this, too. Let me know how the muse leads.
Emma DeMarais: BlueEyeemmademarais on November 3rd, 2006 01:31 am (UTC)
Well, I can wrangle the muse for drabbles, but past that she has her own mind and her own will, which I am subject to quite often I'm afraid.
/looks at *four* fic worked on yesterday and sighs/

There are new promotions coming up, so if you don't use this idea for Four for Fic maybe you could use it for Reward fic in November. Not sure how much longer we'll keep doing custom fic promotions, but it was agreed that stopping it cold in November would be cruel, so we'll have *a* promotion, just not Four for Fic.

So if you want individual fic we can use this, otherwise saving it for later is cool with me.

Thanks,

Emma

*stores in seive-like brain for future*

I'll go with the car for the time being, but I'll remember this for a future reward.
Emma DeMarais: BlueEyeemmademarais on November 3rd, 2006 04:17 am (UTC)
No worries. I wrote it into my tracking document just in case.

Car show it is...
PhilLeeGirlphilleegirl on November 3rd, 2006 04:42 am (UTC)
You rock! Thank you.

*grins* I loved it. And I loved that it was Megan/Don, which is my absolute favorite pairing.

We do need more kick ass women in the world, and I do think that strong female role models are the key to it, among other things.
melissima: Megan Smiling by <lj user=dollydani>melissima on October 10th, 2006 04:16 pm (UTC)
You know, since you're clear on your favorite pairing, all we need now is a bunny and you'll have your custom fic! :) Let me know if you want to brainstorm, my hutch is always brimming.
Emma DeMarais: BlueEyeemmademarais on October 10th, 2006 04:22 pm (UTC)
Mine too! Hee!
Tellitelligirl on October 10th, 2006 07:23 pm (UTC)
Brainstorming sounds good. Unfortunately, I've had to lock my hutch away for the time being, but I can hear the bunnies clamoring to be let out.
Emma DeMarais: BlueEyeemmademarais on October 11th, 2006 09:22 am (UTC)
Well let us know when you're ready. We're both happy to help. :-)

Your fic awaits you!
Emma DeMarais: BlueEyeemmademarais on October 11th, 2006 09:21 am (UTC)
I've tried to be a good role model because you never know what your impact will be in the world - you can only try to make an impact and hope for the best.

Thanks,

Emma

I love this story so much. Yeah, I completely agree Megan's idea to raise more kick ass women for this world. I also like Don's suggestion and Megan's implication that Don has the ability to raise some great guys.
Emma DeMarais: BlueEyeemmademarais on June 21st, 2007 07:52 pm (UTC)
Thanks. I'm glad this touched you the same way it touched me. My best friend and I both really wanted daughters so she was a bit thrown when she had a boy. I told her the world needs more evolved men to marry these new modern women so she was doing the world a service by raising such an exceptional little man.

I like the idea of Don with a daughter and have written him as such. Having a girl tempers his macho side and having a boy for Charlie would result in yet another sensitive ready to honor women sort of male for the world. /smiles/
