Numb3rs Fic: Show of Appreciation
Written for numb3rs100 Author Reward

Title: Show of Appreciation
Pairing/Characters: Don/Charlie
Rating: PG
Word Count: 100
Spoilers: None
Summary: Don shows Charlie how much he appreciates him
Notes/Warnings: Read the disclaimer on my LJ

"Larry, is it really that hard to believe I just want a quiet night... at... home..."

Charlie's voice trailed off as he walked in the door.

The house was dark save a glow of candlelight coming from the dining room table, set with the family's good china, stemware and roses.

"Got to go..."

Charlie snapped his phone shut as Don appeared out of the darkness.

"You think I don't appreciate you, your work, all that you do..."

Don took Charlie's bag off his shoulder.

"I do."

He took Charlie's face in his hands and kissed him.

"Let me show you."

Confession
This fic was custom written for queen_kiwi as part of the Four for Fic promotion at numb3rs100.

She asked for Don/Charlie schmoop and I'm embarrassed to say I had no idea what that was. (The schmoop part – anyone who's been to my LJ can see I know Don/Charlie.) /grins/ When I asked for a clarification, she asked for romance, candles, roses... You get the picture. Now that I can do. /points to Honey and Roses/

I confess that the coincidence of the title didn't hit me until I was writing up this confession. I should have realized that naming the fic Show of Appreciation when it was in fact a show of appreciation for an author was at least a bit of a pun. ;-)

Thank you to queen_kiwi for supporting numb3rs100. I hope you enjoy your romantic evening with Don and Charlie.

Thanks,

Emma DeMarais

That was lovely! Very romantic... I really loved it! :sighs and goes to happy place:

Yes, between writing this and the adorable Larry/Megan Reward Fic that was requested I've been in a very happy fic place indeed.

The Charlie/Ian didn't hurt either. ;-)

Thanks,

Emma

Ooh! Larry/Megan? Yay! *claps* Looking forward to reading that.

This fic was lovely, too. I've been reading pretty much all of your Numb3rs fic and enjoying them. The Obshina series is really good. *two thumbs waaay way up!*
Emma DeMarais: BlueEyeemmademarais on November 5th, 2006 01:18 am (UTC)
Thank you! That's very kind of you to say. I'm glad you're reading and enjoying all this fic. I've been on quite the drabble binge for a while so I'm hoping I'll be able to fit in some longer fic here and there this month.

I've got six more installments of Obshina written and waiting to be published. I'll see if I can get that Larry/Megan published in the next day or so. :-)

BTW, you'll be happy to know that that L/M fic is the first in a drabble series that will have at least a dozen installments. The first fic, and the series, is named Wildcard.

Oh, and there's cars in it. Hehehe

Thanks,

Emma

I may not always comment, but when I do, I make it clear that it isn't just for the one fic. *grin* I'd noticed that you'd been writing drabbles and I tip my hat to you. I struggle with them sometimes. Though, I did write a drabble once without even trying. *amused*

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the rest of your fics/drabbles. Admittedly, Wildcard is more eagerly awaited. *wink* Oh, cars are good. *nodnod*

That's very considerate of you. I chalk that up to you being an author as well as a reader. :-)

No one comments on every fic they read and I admit to being pretty bad at commenting. (In my defense, I don't *read* much fic. My focus is on writing it and my muse obviously keeps me pretty busy.) You're a known entity though - you've commented plenty in the past on my LJ. What mystifies me is people who friend my LJ for fic yet have never commented. /shrugs/

I struggle with them sometimes.

They're a fun challenge though, IMHO.

BTW, pop over to numb3rs100 on Tuesday and check out the Challenge post that would have been put up at some point Monday night. You might find something there that might inspire you to write some drabbles... /smiles knowingly/

Oh, it's *good* to be mod... Hehehe

Admittedly, Wildcard is more eagerly awaited. *wink*

I *thought* you might like it. The series is Reward Fic for philleegirl who you might already know as an avid Larry/Megan fan, but I figured you'd enjoy it as well. /grins/

Oh, cars are good. *nodnod*

So, the more cars the better? ;-)

Hee!

Thanks,

Emma

That's very considerate of you. I chalk that up to you being an author as well as a reader. :-)

*chuckle* That's probably it. I appreciate it when people tell me that they like not only the fic they've commented on, but also others that I've written.

They're a fun challenge though, IMHO.

Yes, they are. stagesoflove is a community where you write five drabbles/ficlets in five weeks following a specific pairing. There's various themes such as the five senses, five stages of love, trouble in paradise, and so on. I did that a couple times and it helped me to condense what I was saying. I did Larry/Megan and Don/Terry the first time, but branched into other fandoms the second time.

You might find something there that might inspire you to write some drabbles...

I'll try to remember to pop by.

Oh, yes. She's an active member at white_tuberoses and I've been enjoying her fics. No wonder the fic is Larry/Megan. *wink*

So, the more cars the better? ;-)

Not quite what I meant. Classic cars, especially from the 1920s and 1930s are very good. Though some of the later cars are pretty cool, too.

I figured you'd recognize her name from that comm.

Let me rephrase...

So, the more classic/antique cars the better? ;-)

Remember this is a *Larry* fic... /grins/

Let's just say there will be more than just the Larrymobile in this series. /grins/

I can picture Don waiting for Charlie in the dark. It's very romantic.
Emma DeMarais: BlueEyeemmademarais on November 9th, 2006 04:52 am (UTC)
Good, since that was what was requested!

Only so much romance you can squeeze into 100 words, but I figured this is one scenario most of us can fill in the blanks on with our imagination. :-)

Thanks,

Emma

I really like this one. It's so very sweet and tender, and there are definitely times Charlie needs that reassurance.
Emma DeMarais: BlueEyeemmademarais on November 9th, 2006 04:56 am (UTC)
He does. He needs to know Don hears him, understands him; he needs to know Don really cares.

Don may not be the most sensitive guy on the planet, but he has a good heart. Such gestures might not be frequent from him, but they'd be very heartfelt when they were.

Thanks,

Emma

Having just bounced over here from your rec on my LJ, I thought I'd just leave a little comment (it's only about a year after the last one!).

This was so sweet it brought a lump to my throat. And, as we've been saying, you can never do this scenario too many times, and it will work in any format. In fact there's something almost better about this drabble version than the longer versions - you don't need a lot of words to convey the romance absolutely perfectly (not that I don't love the longer versions too, you understand... *g*)

Okay, so not such a little comment... :-D
