"I don't think you killed your husband just to inherit his estate." Colby slid some photographs across the table to where Virginia sat sullen and pouting. "These boy toys were a distraction... for your husband. You weren't very discreet with your indiscretions on purpose. You wanted him to know about these lovers so he wouldn't look any closer, but he did. He found out who you were really sneaking around with." Colby pulled another photo out. "His CFO, Martin Sanders."

"Please..." Virginia scoffed. "As if I'd cheat on an old man with another old man."

"Oh, you weren't sleeping with Sanders," Colby stated assuredly. "You were just helping him embezzle tens of millions from the company. You were going to loot the corporation and bolt with your share, which was far more than your husband's measly three million."

"A nice bedtime story, Agent Granger," Virginia said, feigning a bored yawn. "But just a story. You have no proof."

Colby motioned to the two-way mirror and a few seconds later David entered, deposited a box on the table and left.

Colby opened the box and began to lay out the contents on the table top.

"Let's see... We have recovered emails setting up clandestine meets with Sanders, we have bank records for the offshore accounts you set up two months ago just after the meetings started and we have this..."

He pulled a digital tape recorder out of the box and pressed play.

After a few seconds of hearing her dead husband's voice Virginia's façade slipped.

After she heard what he had to say she blanched.

Colby turned off the recorder.

"What do you want?" she asked, her voice tremulous, drained of all hubris.

"Sanders." He slid a pad and pen across to Virginia. "But we'll start with your confession."

Confession
I love a good twist (as anyone who recently read Trials might guess) so I hope at least a few of you didn't see the embezzlement angle coming. Hehehe

Thanks,

Love the twist! I really enjoyed what you did with this. Very inventive.

This was great! I loved the boxes of evidence just deflating her and, no, I didn't see the embezzlement coming. Can't wait for more.
