"Once we get settled in a new house, what would you like to do next?"

Her father's question rousted Claire from her reverie, staring out at the acres of cornfields along the highway as the number of miles back to New York finally became more than the number of miles to Texas.

"I just want to go back to high school. You know, normal life."

"That's it? You just want to go back to school?"

"I'm a simple girl with simple dreams," Claire said, smiling brightly.

Noah laughed. "Claire-bear, you are anything but simple, but if it makes you happy... Although home schooling..."

"Enough with the home schooling thing!" Claire protested, laughing. "There's no cheerleading squad for home schoolers and there's no way you're going to talk Lyle into it, so don't even try with me."

Noah grinned. "Fair enough. I know when I'm beat."

Claire settled back in her seat and turned to watch the cornfields fly by again.

"There is something else," she said quietly. "Peter and my real dad. I want to see them again." She paused for a moment. "All this hiding, keeping secrets? I want to be me with at least some people in this world."

"I thought I was your real dad," Noah protested.

"You know what I mean," Claire said, rolling her eyes and giving her father a playful shove in the arm. "Saying biological father just takes forever."

"Well, you can call us whatever you'd like, but your mother and I both love you very much."

"I know," Claire said, nodding. "You went through a lot for me and that means more to me than just stupid old DNA any day."

"Claire, you might just have some of the smartest DNA on the planet, so I wouldn't be so dismissive of it," Noah teased. "But you're right. We may not be the family you're blood related to, but we're the ones who love you."

"Me and my crazy power," Claire said, letting out a mock sigh.

"Yes, you and your so called crazy power," Noah agreed. A moment of silence passed before he spoke again. "So do you think you'll go for prom queen? Or maybe most likely to?"

"I guess I could get voted 'most likely to survive impalement, fire and nuclear explosions'," Claire scoffed. "But yeah, prom queen sounds doable after what we went through in New York."

Noah roared with laughter, taking off his horn-rimmed glasses and wiping his eyes once he was done.

"Honey, that crown is already yours..."

I wrote Claire! (Um, I didn't write her before did I? LOL! I guess I've finally written enough Heroes fic I can't remember them all off the top of my head. /grins/)

Noah I know I've written before because it was fairly recent (and like much of my Heroes fic, painfully ignored /sniff/) and I seem to remember it going fairly well in terms of capturing his character's voice.

Writing Claire? It reminded me of why Buffy fic was so hard back in the day. I rocked at writing Giles, but the mind of a 16 year old girl? (Especially one who likes flighty stuff like fashion and cheerleading.) Let's just say that's not on my wavelength. ;-)

Once the fic was done, I wasn't sure if it was mostly drama or humor or what. You know what though? I liked it like that. It felt real...

Very special thanks to beta iolsai for her assistance with this fic.
