Psych Fic: Like Ninjas
Posted to psychfiction

Title: Like Ninjas
Pairing/Characters: Shawn, Gus
Rating: PG
Spoilers: Pilot
Summary: Shawn gets in a fight with his dad but needs something from the house
Notes/Warnings: Read the disclaimer on my LJ

Gus looked around nervously, fidgeting as Shawn bent over the lock to the beach house's back door.

"Shawn, you've had some colossal bad ideas, but breaking into your dad's house? That's got to be one of the worst!"

Nonplussed, Shawn just kept working the lock. "Gus, it's not breaking in if one day I'll own this house," he explained carelessly. "My dad's retired. Who's going to fault me for a bit of impatience?"

"Your dad's a retired cop," Gus whispered harshly. "One who still has lots of friends in the precinct. Besides, you know how much he loves making an example of you."

"Which is why you're the one going in," Shawn said as he stepped back, pushing the door open with a flourish. "After you, or..." he paused, "in this case not after you since I'm not going in."

"Why me?" Gus protested.

"Because my dad would kill me if he found out I was in the house!" Shawn whispered tersely. "You heard his little tirade! 'Don't you come back until you've learned your lesson!' Dude, he changed the locks! He's really pissed this time."

"So did you learn your lesson?" Gus asked, crossing his arms over his chest.

"Gus! Get in there and get my spare helmet from the hall closet!"

Gus planted his feet on the ground and looked stubborn. "Did you learn your lesson?" he repeated.

Shawn rolled his eyes. "I learned that a helmet left on a motorcycle will get stolen even in front of the police department. I learned that riding a motorcycle without a helmet is not only unsafe, it's a really expensive ticket. And right now I'm learning that my lifelong buddy, my best friend, my partner..." he put extra emphasis on the last word. "He'd rather see me die of head injuries than risk my father's wrath."

Shawn crossed his own arms across his chest and mock pouted, turning away as Gus looked like he was going to complain.

"Fine," Gus said, caving. "But if he fingerprints the house later or something and comes after me, I will rat you out."

"So much love..." Shawn drawled. "Now get your little hiney in there! And be super quiet!"

Gus paused in the doorway. "You said he was gone tonight."

"He is, but it's no fun if we're all loud and obvious about it!" he said playfully. "We need to be stealthy and silent, like... like ninjas!" He pantomimed a few martial arts moves in slow motion as Gus watched then stopped and waved him into the house. "Go! That helmet won't walk out on its own."

Shawn waited at the door, tuning his senses to the soft footfall of Gus's shoes first on the living room rug, the kitchen tile then the wooden floor of the hallway.

He strained to hear the click of the latch of the closet door opening, but instead heard an avalanche and a yelp from Gus as the contents of the closet fell out on top of him.

Shawn let out an exasperated sigh as the neighbor's porch light suddenly went on.

"So much for being ninjas..."

Confession
I wrote this by request for the lovely 1trackmind.

She challenged me to write Psych with Gus and Shawn using the prompt Ninjas.

LOL!

I think I rather like the results...

Thanks,

it makes a lovely light: psych spelling bee freakout by unknown___esque on July 7th, 2007 05:49 am (UTC)
This is hilarious, and totally in character. Will you be writing more? It would make a great multi-chapter... *hint, hint* :DDD

Thanks! I hoped it would come across since they were totally in character in my head visually.

I'm not sure if you've seen my other Psych fic (it's tagged), but I haven't written much. I'm waiting for the new season to get me back in the groove.

I get tons of sequel requests and I used to tell people when I was sure it was a distinct one off that there would be no sequel. Recently though a reader got me to not only write a sequel for a *very* one shot fic, she got me to turn it into a series! Now there are three stories and a fourth on the way with no end in sight for that universe.

So I'll leave you with this.

On ne sait jamais.

Glad you liked it...

Look at that lovely icon! Is that you? No... Wait... It's KV! I almost couldn't tell the difference! Hee!

Isn't Psych on at the same time as *our favorite TV show*? (And if you say Heroes like I know iolsai would I might have to smack you. Hehehe)

Thankfully USA reruns the heck out of it, so I don't mind it being competition. /grin/

Gros bisous...

yes, Psych is on at the same time. And I know exactly which one is our favorite. :)

I am determined to watch Psych reruns, if only so I'll get your fics better.
Emma DeMarais: BlueEyeemmademarais on July 8th, 2007 06:16 pm (UTC)
Bah! You don't have to do that! Watch if you enjoy only. As long as you know the premise and main characters you should be fine reading my Psych fic.

If you want to watch reruns watch Jericho or Bones. Jericho is now on before Numb3rs and I think if I get caught up on it I will likely fic it. (I feel like I owe Skeet since I failed so miserably in ficcing Miracles. /frowns/)

nice
That was cute, amusing. I enjoyed the Shawn/Gus banter.

Re: nice
Thanks! It seems a lot of the fandoms I am attracted to have great banter: Shawn and Gus in Psych, Morgan and Garcia in Criminal Minds and now Booth and Brennan in Bones. It was a lot of fun to write.

Thanks for reading and commenting.

LOL!! This was too funny and their voices were perfect. I loved it. A great way to get ready for the new season. Oh, and the "these he learned" mini-monologue just made me giggle. I could hear the kid who plays Shawn saying that.

Hee! Oh my heart. This is everything I love about this show in one delightful fic!

"He is, but it's no fun if we're all loud and obvious about it!" he said playfully. "We need to be stealthy and silent, like... like ninjas!"

LOL! That is so perfectly Shawn. ♥

Hee! Another fandom for us!

I'm working on a longer Psych fic that's a bit stalled, but I do enjoy Shawn's voice quite a bit. The Shawn and Gus friendship is great, the Shawn and Lassiter antagonism is amusing, even Shawn with everyone else at the PD is a hoot: Juliet, the captain, even Buzz! One of these days I even want to give Henry a serious go.

But first? /hangs head/ I really need to get caught up on the series. I am *woefully* behind.
