Numb3rs Fic: Natural Assets
Written for numb3rs100 Challenge #119 – Strip

Title: Natural Assets
Series/Universe: Natural Assets
Pairing/Characters: Liz, Don
Rating: PG13
Word Count: 300
Spoilers: Longshot
Summary: Liz's life led her to Quantico then to Don Eppes - twice
Notes/Warnings: Read the disclaimer on my LJ

Her mother entered her in local beauty pageants.

Honey, you're so beautiful. So much prettier than the other girls.

Her father took her to the gun range.

Hold it steady. Practice enough and I'll buy you a rifle like your big brother's.

She ran Track and Field and managed a partial scholarship to a nearby university.

She tried an International Business major, a semester of Psych and then finally fell in love with Criminal Justice.

She got her degree when she turned 21.

She applied to the FBI right afterwards.

Her mother scolded her constantly, but it was the first time in her life she'd bitten her nails. She figured she'd earned it. This was too important. Her career - her life - depended on their answer.

She got in.

She wasn't the only woman in her class at Quantico, but she'd learned from her parents to use her natural assets to her advantage.

She made a point of stripping down to her tank top when her male instructors were watching.

Sometimes it would result in a few extra tactical tips, sometimes bonus time on the good sniper rifles.

Sometimes instructors were harder on her for it - almost as punishment for showing off, trying to get ahead on looks.

Some simply ignored her gender and treated her with respect based strictly on her merits as a future agent.

Those were her favorite instructors.

So when Agent Eppes passed by and said with a nod, "Looking good out there, Warner," she knew he meant the pattern of bullet holes in her target, not her ass in her tight jeans.

She never crossed the line and slept with or even dated any of her instructors, though there were a few she would have liked to.

Don Eppes was one of them.

This goes out to delgaserasca.

It's my attempt - inspired by her - to give Liz something of a backstory.

I am going to do a Liz centric drabble series this month. I don't have it all written yet /grins/ but I will try to make her more than just a Don!prop. ;-)

Considering I could have done some super sexy drabbles with this month's prompts instead of a character analysis I hope I get some karmic benefits from this since Aya will never know. Hehehe

I like it! I can imagine the struggles of a beautiful woman in a "man's" field. In a way, Liz is testing those around her - and Don passed. :)

If I'd answered this before (mea culpa) I would have agreed, saying Don's a good guy, but he just failed his last exam. Oops.

Hmm... I'm not a Liz fan, but if we got info like this on her I would like her a lot more.

I loved the last few lines. Wonderful!

Yeah, that was kind of the idea. Where TPTB give us no good canon, make some up so we can enjoy her.

Thank you hon! (And apologies for the delay.)

I like it, both as a character study and a fic. My favorite parts were her biting her nails, and which instructors she liked/respected the most.

But mostly, I love how you gave her a life, before and during the FBI.

TPTB never gave her a life so I felt compelled to.

I really like this insight into Liz and how she uses her assets to help her and test those around her.

Thanks. I may not be beautiful, but I know something about being a woman in a man's field and I liked imagining how she might navigate that world.
